Reynolds has called out the refs consistency over the 6-agains.

Reynolds is renowned for his ice-cool demeanour but the Broncos skipper fears the NRL premiers are not being duly rewarded for their ruck control as they brace for forward fireworks with the Dogs of War.

Asked if the situation is frustrating him, Reynolds said:

“A little bit.

“There’s times where we feel like we win tackles or we get three or four blokes in a tackle and we deserve to get a slow play-the-ball, but we’re jumping off whenever we hit the ground now.

“I was just trying to get a gauge on how we can be better in this space and where the ref sees where we weren’t holding up to the standard there.

“I just went to the ref and asked why they are getting three or four into the tackle and it feels a bit slower than ours, so I was just trying to get consistency around that.”

Reynolds says defensive teams should be allowed to dominate the ruck if they win the tackle.

“I’d like to see it that way,” he said.

“But it might not be the way the NRL want it to be.

“They have a tough job. We know the refs are under pressure themselves.

“They won’t get every call right so as football players we need to get on with it and not worry too much about.

“But when it is continually happening against your team, I thought I would get on the front foot and ask how we can be better and be better in alleviating the six agains.

“It’s just about finding common ground and working towards that.

“The product that we have on the field is amazing. They do a great job in supplying our fans with the best product and if that’s what it is, that’s what it is and we have to live up to that standard.”

****ing love this. Get into them Skip. It's been absolutely blatant the past couple of weeks.

Brisbane forward Jordan Riki will don his lucky headgear and play though sharp foot pain for his "family".

The 26-year-old second-rower battled through plantar fasciitis in his foot in the 21-20 away win over Wests Tigers on Saturday night.

He will do it again against Canterbury on Friday night at Suncorp Stadium as the Broncos face being without up to 14 of their top squad.

Riki's ailment is essentially inflammation of the thick tissue on the sole of the foot.

Broncos centre partner Kotoni Staggs suffered a similar ailment in the win over the Tigers but has been named against the Bulldogs.

"He will be in a bit of pain the next couple of days but who knows what Kotoni can do? He is a magic man sometimes," Riki said.

Riki said one of his family members marvelled at his resilience to play through agony but the man himself said his commitment had deep roots.

"I look at this team like a family," he said.

"It would feel like I would be turning my back on the boys and my family if I don't turn up and put my best foot forward."

Broncos fans call him 'Headgear Riki" for his stellar displays when wearing the protective garb.

Riki had a brilliant undefeated 2025 finals series on the way to winning the premiership and said the headgear was like a good luck charm.

Late last year he was suffering bruising around his ears after contact in games and the team physiotherapist suggested he wear headgear.

"The boys sort of took the piss out of me before wearing it and then we won that Canberra final," Riki said.

"Then all the boys were like, 'Oh you can't take it off now … gotta keep it on for the finals series'.

" I ended up doing that and we obviously did pretty well in the finals."

Riki ditched the headgear early this season and the Broncos lost.

"In the first two rounds, I wasn't happy with my performance, and I think Kotoni brought it up to me," Riki grinned.

"He's like, 'Oh bro, you might need to bring that headgear back'. So I think I brought the headgear back for the Melbourne game."

Riki was dominant in an 18-14 comeback win and has been super ever since.

"I've just got to keep it." he said.

"It is sort of like an alter ego I guess. When I put it on, it's go time.

"It's like that switch really. It's sort of me now, I guess."

We finally got an answer as to why he wears the headgear!! Haha

Also, huge kudos to him playing with his pain. I’ve had plantar fasciitis and it’s exactly how he described it. It’s painful 24/7, took months to go away. The pain would worsen when lying down so you get no ease from the pain, I had to get night splints, it’s not fun at all.

It’s going to be interesting to see how both he and Kotoni can get through it. Interesting that Riki said he’s trying to ‘pop it’, I guess that would make the pain go away but then there would be a recovery time with that right? Or I guess it’s the same because the injury takes ages to go away anyway. So may as well pop it.

Madge could be waiting on players coming back so he can then rest him.

Was seeing several comments that footballers used to do all sorts of things to try and snap it because it reduces the pain.

No idea what the recovery time is but sounds like it's something that you can keep playing with 🤔

I think Riki was saying that Staggs snapped his, so maybe Staggs will be ok through this period... although he looked seriously hampered in the Tigers game

It isn't even arguable - we haven't won a single penalty count this year and we are a quarter of the way through already.
It's not that we are losing the count, it's by how much each week. Surely we aren't that ill-disciplined compared to the team we are playing on the day where the count gets to 9-3.......

I had plantar fasciitis a few years ago a lady friend who had worked in the shoe business for 25 years told me to get a pair of Scholl sandals.

I was a bit sceptical but within two days of wearing them my excruciating pain was totally gone.

It’s all about the tendons being pulled the wrong way when you do any form of exercise without first warming up and loosening the calf muscles. The sandals make you use your toes for grip which in turn pushes the arches up thus relieving the tendons that start at your heel and spread out towards your arches.

I still wear them every couple of days or so and they're the best footwear I’ve ever spent cash on.

Against the Titans it was 15-8! And that’s not the only time we’ve been absolutely smashed from the very first set

If it’s blatant the last couple of weeks, the next 3 weeks shits me. But fcuk it. We’re winning them all. Just need to somehow manufacture a W Friday night.

Patty will be back next week and the week after we “MAY” have Walshy back 🤷‍♂️.
