POST GAME 2026 State of Origin

This might rage quite a few here but, I just don’t care about this year’s Origin man.

I would prefer Billy to not pick any of our guys but even if he did, I would be glad if they have very minimal game time.
Knowing Billy, he would pick every Bronx player he could possibly including Mam on the extended team list just to screw us up. We’ll know how shit Ezra has been.

Just want this Origin period be over at the earliest.
I don't really care about Origin (QLD has too many players I despise on a weekly basis in the NRL for me to give a shit), but it would be extremely rough on someone like Walsh to be left out for KP on the back of 2 games. It's not Walsh's fault that his team has 7 starters out - he's still producing tries and assists despite that.

Even with a pairing of Tommy and Munster we didn't have the best long kick options, that would be even worse with a Walker/Munster combo.

Clifford is in pretty good form, whether he is QLD quality is another thing, but he's got a good boot on him.

I think they'll go Walker..

Then just jam as many Broncos on the extended bench as possible and call it a day.
Yeah it seems primed for Walker to get a debut and see how he goes defensively.

If it works then halves are pretty well sorted moving forward and you've got serious attacking threat across the board.

It probably comes down to the role Billy wants his 7 to play.

Walker is not really a traditional 7... and he struggled to combine with Keary as it was constantly unknown who was actually 7 and who was 6... that could easily happen in Qld where you have dominant playmakers that want the ball in Munster, Reece, Ponga, etc. can Walker fit into that role.

If Munster was out I'd say Walker is the logical replacement, but if you need a stock 7 that can do a supporting role, it's probably Tanah, Fogarty or Clifford.

For me I think Clifford is currently playing a role that could fit into a Qld spine.

There's so much strike with the rest of the spine that you dont necessarily want to bring another one in and have too many chefs.

Clifford has happily taken a back-seat at clubland and is still providing a ton of value to that team.

Whereas Tanah is the lead half for wahs.. play goes through him even if it is just to be a link man.

When he partnered up with Metcalf there was confusion instantly, and he took a back-seat and was far less effective.

They will both be there, with the size of the bench this year.

Depending on game scenario whoever is on the bench will either come into the game looking to make a difference or be injury cover for the backs. They can both play 6 too.

Someone mentioned it at the start (potentially as a joke) and I didn't want to admit it at the time. But if Benjamin Hunt is fully fit, I'd go with him. Yes, he's old (not as old as DCE though IIRC) and is effectively the Timmy Dingdong before Timmy. Nuggety semi-skilled but absolute balls-out tough competitor. I don't see his Broncos form as reflective, as we are completely spent right now. Just as I would not take the form of Walker or Boyd as gospel, as their forward packs are trampling (often) much weaker oppositions.

I don't think so. I think so many of us are disillusioned with league we just don't care. Add to that the injury woes our club has and it just looks like it will derail our season even more. Its going to be super frustrating to see us roll out a team without the likes of Mam and Shibasaki (ok they aren't going great but at least they aren't injured) who are just sitting on the bench catching a cold.

Haven't cared about Origin for years personally. I thought it was because I've blamed it several times for ****ing our season and therefore our premiership hopes. Well, we won last year and I still don't give a genuine shit.

I guess it will take a couple of years of NSW dominance to get me to care again.

How short sighted do you have to be to pick kp off the back of 2 regular season games, one of which was against the worst side in the history of the comp? Do people not remember what Walsh did 6 months ago in the finals?

The joy of a 24/7 news cycle. "Journalists" have to have a story to stay relevant even if it's flimsy as ****.

It's not a bad shout, but Bhunt's career isn't exactly littered with clutch games at halfback. He only kicked his 2nd ever field goal in the Canberra final last year.

His origin career is all about him being hooker / utility off the bench... but as far as halfback goes it's probably not what his career will be remembered for.

I see where you’re coming from & I can respect that. For mine, I would want Walsh to be picked but hope that he ends up with minimum involvement throughout the series.

Being a Bronx diehard, I may sound selfish but my theory is that from R17, I want our full squad(baring CJ, BW & DM?) fit, healthy and raring to go.
If getting selected in Origin side and not being utilised at all leads our guys to get determined, hungrier and focused to prove, I’m all game. It works wonders for us come backend of the season leading into October 😉.

We had a pretty dream run through origin last year.

Walsh played every game for broncos bar Manly in rd 13... and Rd 19, because he was named 18th man or something

Patty was playing off the bench, because Loiero was starting at 13... Patty was also only playing like 30-40mins a game.

Payne was Payne... NSW just run him into the ground all the time. I think he had a niggle that almost ruled him out for one of the games, but they still picked him and played him underdone.

And that was pretty much it except for Shiba who was great during game 3.

Ezra was also 18th man in game 2, which is probably fine... we had the bye in that round and he didn't have to play.

This year we've nominated to play two affected games and then get a bye straight after it... I don't mind having the bye after an origin game, but why do we have all 3 byes within 6 weeks... ****ing stupid scheduling

I'll just leave this here:

I am lost for words. Is he drunk? Or foxing with the Blues? Or trying to put a rocket up the Broncos boys, being involved in the club they might take this personally? As much as I love to only see one Bronco name there, I really really hope this is not the team we run out with.

I mean...Cobbo? Really Cameron?? He has got to either be taking the piss or well on it. Right?

He's playing mind games with that team list lol. He can't actually be serious.

How about this ?
Cooper Cronk reckons Munster at 7 and Ponga at 6 !

Zero chance Walsh misses out

My thoughts, but will probably change as I remember people

1. Walsh
2. Murray Taulagi
3. Toia
4. Hammer
5. Val (he was selected on the wing on game 1 and 3 last year)
6. Munster
7. Tanah/Clifford/Walker (whatever Billy feels)
8. Cotter
9. Harry
10. Tino
11. Luki
12. Finefeuiaki
13. Patty

14. Plath
15. Collins
16. Loeiro maybe
17. Nikora or Capewell
18. An outside back (maybe Purdue??... Cobbo, Shiba or Jesse other contenders)
19. Ponga

20. Ezra

There are not a lot of meters in that back 3... or even the back 5.

I think that more to do with Metcalf looking like shit coming off injury and for some reason having the ego the size of africa despite the Warriors sticking by him. Boyd would do a job

Its not the worst thing I have ever heard. Origin is more of a play over the advantage line type of game anyway. Look at dearden. He aint a traditional 7.

Despite Ponga getting kocked out every 2nd week when he played 6 a few years ago I actually think he is a really strong defender and that might have just been unlucky.
