Just on this, I'm not calling for a re-start on either. This is basically a big part of the problem. If there were no six agains, would that even be a penalty? Of course it wouldn't, so why is it a six again?
The new ref seems to be getting mostly positive reviews and why? Because if he blows the whistle, you normally go yep, that's hard to argue. The other refs, you are constantly thinking, what the heck was that for?
Unless it is a CLEAR breach of the rules, keep the whistle out of the ref's mouth. And if you do blow it, you need to be consistent and you can't do that on discretionary penalties which are at worst 50/50.
I don't think anyone really has an issue with the clear penalties yesterday and Brissy definitely committed some of those but it is the head scratching ones in between that leave you fuming and especially when its compounded by the Barnett high shot and Tuaipiki non-binnings when those are the clear ones that should be given. Not the Patty completely normal tackle length sin binning ones.
