2026 NRL General Discussion Thread

The thing that puts Bennet above Bellamy and even Ivan in my eyes, is not only success at multiple clubs, but also success at all level of representative football.
He also lost to png, as England coach.

Rugby league his died a violent death this year thanks to the idiotic administration running the game ... An administration so bad they make the Trump administration look like Abraham Lincoln's by comparison

Great read on current state of the game.

"Narratively, rugby league was always based on the battle of possession v position, where physicality, fatigue, smarts and strategy combined.

But when tries are cheap and plentiful, each individual event loses value.

It’s ultra-processed rugby league, and everyone knows that’s bad for you."

I read that this morning... it had me thinking that the next TV rights deal and how it could be the death of NRL if they get it wrong.

If they split games across multiple subscription services I dont think I'd be paying to subscribe to them all with the current state of the game and how much I ****ing hate so many things associated with it... especially when they usually bump up the fees for "sports packages".

If I'm not seeing every game then I'm probably losing interest in Supercoach, tipping, etc. which is literally the only thing that makes me give even the slightest shit about all 8 games each week... even at the moment I'm nowhere near as invested in Supercoach this year.

So my touch points to the sport start reducing dramatically and my interest in following the sport will inevitably start to drop.

Eventually it would only be broncos games that mean anything to me, but if they started splitting across services... then I'm probably fine with missing a game here and there and catching up on it through highlights, etc.

It has potential to be a very slippery slope, because if you're not interested in results from other teams then what even is the point of following a sport

I’m feeling how I felt during the Super League war. Took me years to get back into the game.

Yep, like you knew it should have won and it will take years to come out of the dark ages.
