2026 NRL General Discussion Thread

Could this be why Ikin resigned from his QLD role recently? Dunno if he's the sort that PVL would hire but the timing is interesting.

Ikin said his next job isn't footy related..

Heard it's the tech industry

Not sure PVL likes being questioned or having someone smarter than him in the same room. He will hire Blocker Roach or someone who can’t say no, Vossy maybe.

He's found his replacement for Abdo ... Himself 🤣

Well, interim isn't permanent but shouldn't Abdo have someone under him that could step up as an audition for a permanent role rather than Don Vlando? Or is there no talent at that level of the NRL?

Here is an exclusive look at Abdo getting the news that he could leave the NRL.

Here are some of the early contenders according to the CM

South Sydney chief executive Blake Solly and Brisbane’s Dave Donaghy have been flagged as potential replacements for Abdo, while former Seven boss James Warburton has also been linked with the post, having recently left his position with Supercars. However, the raging favourite would be V’landys should he decide to head down the path of becoming executive chairman, although that would require a change to the constitution and the overwhelming support of the members of the commission - the clubs and states.

Dave is probably overqualified, he would actually know the names of the players and clubs.

Wyatt Raymond has again shown himself to be the best ref the NRL has. from the games i've seen him ref, I have the most confidence that when he officiates, the players will decide the game.

he awards six-agains as they should be awarded (i.e. when a penalty would have previously been blown instead and not to manage the game.

and he doesn't appear to ref via a tip sheet (or NRL script). he just rules what's in front of him.

keep it up Mr. Raymond ... please don't let Vlandys and his minions turn you into one of their puppets.

For the most part he was good today, he was hammering Talty today tho, the tackle had barely/if even completed and he was telling Talty to release, it was very obvious in the audio of the game, so Talty was on the tip sheet for sure.

I thought a couple of times our blokes copped a high shot which was just ignored for whatever reason. Not bad ones in any sense but there was high contact.

Our players are scared to do anything. We made numerous dominant tackles today that resulted in us getting off them as quick as possible and a quick play the ball.

Also teams have their own tip sheet that says they won’t get called offside against us. The dragons won’t have that line speed again this year

Agree on this BUT if we play the way we did today it doesn't matter because we'll be lucky to catch a cold. Hot garbage is being charitable. What were we at, 50% completions after 6 sets? Abysmal.

We need to be so much better in so many aspects of the game. I agree the way we've been officiated is playing into it but it's still absolutely not good enough.

Gus is a legend. He even took a passive-aggressive swipe at the ponga send off on Wednesday. Am proud of him for that.

Is he the only one left in the media that still says it was a BS decision to send Ponga off ... The rest have done 180s at a record pace
