Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

Preston Riki is an interesting signing. Was a Warriors product who they allowed to walk to the Panthers. Panthers love a Warriors player and Warriors have no shortage of young guns so it doesn't mean the kid can't play but he never quite kicked on at either side. So we know he has come from two good football programs but has not been fantastic.

Do we think he can go up another gear at the Broncs or is he simply roster filler?
To be honest... it seems like Madge trusts him more than Jhunt... so if he's just coming in to replace Jhunt then I'm happy we'll have someone in the top 30 that the coach actually wants to use.

Do we even know if it's a Top 30 or a Dev Deal?

Given he was train and trial they might've just bumped him to Dev Deal 🤔🤔

Seeing him on the field this year... he looks the body type for the modern NRL prop... tall strong and mobile.

Against the wahs Madge trusted him to start and play 50mins.

He must be confident in his abilities and if he gets a full preseason into him it might be a handy number that can be called on.

If Shibasaki leaves I would look to bring back some of those 2025 Mal Meninga Bears winners we lost. Saxon Innes seems to be toiling away in Jersey Flegg (possibly injured?) stuck behind Chevy Stuart, and Bailey Trew looks to be playing 1st Grade Rugby back in Brisbane, must not have worked out at Souths, let's get him out of that sinking ship and back into our system.

Innes and Trew are the ones we let go for a reason, everyone from that cohort and the one just after who we've kept are much more capable. IMO

I am not a talent scout but I love to track what is out there. With one eye on 2027 there is a lot of super talent that can be scoped up now - given they are not NRL contracted - except a couple of players.

Hopefully our scouts have eyes on some of these guys!!

There is definitely some gems in QLD cup I would love to get into the Broncos environment to boost our squad depth and competition. We need to create more competition inside our squad with genuine talent desperate to make top grade.

Mason Barber would be a nice pick up from the Cowboys. Has Benji Marshall like stepping and can hit lines very well at centre or wing.
Ben Farr has Cameron Munster like attributes and can cover fullback and halves. Great utility.
Mason Lome-Hindle has some athletic talent for his size and could be a future break out star on the wing.
Riley Price needs a shot in a good system like the Broncos. Can cover all forward positions. Late Bloomer. Good stock.
Harry Durbin is a tough as teek young prop. A battle tank in the Talty mold. Mal Meninga is after him but because he is playing QLD cup with the Tigers, I reckon we would have a better shout at him than traveling across to Perth.

Low hanging NSW cup fruit who could become future stars at the Broncos

Zyon Maiu'u
- Huge news when Bulldogs took him off the Warriors. Runs from the back fence and can cover backrow and prop. Gus and co havent given him a genuine shot. Wasted talent. Could be a cult hero here.
Chevy Stewart - Should of, could of, would of been a star at the raiders but he hasnt kicked on. Has massive upside and is fast. A fullback but he would also make a great utility impact off the bench.
Rodney Tuipulotu-Vea - I mentioned this guy before but he is a modern robust prop. Big size but also highly dynamic and mobile too. Can't see a path to NRL at the Warriors within the next couple of years as blocked by established talent. Easier to get.
Makaia Tafua - Priority signing and will come cheap now. Absolute gun hooker. NRL ready in my opinion and will be a HUGE star. He is a mix of Issac Luke and Cameron Smith. Warriors have Egan and Healey blocking him. Throw the bank at this kid and get him to the Broncos. Build a pack around him and Walsh and we are laughing. I would say grab Healey if we couldn't but he will be looking at a significant pay upgrade soon.
Jacob Halangahu - Dragons are stacking young forwards and I think he will get less game time than he deserves. Bringing him into the Broncos system will see him flourish. Robust and strong. Will suit the Broncos attacking style.
Jacob Webster - Another powerful prop at the Dragons languishing in reserve grade. Cant believe they havent given him any NRL time. A lot like Matt Lodge but younger, faster.
Cassius Tia - Was supposedly the next superstar out of the Bulldogs last year. An absolute freak of a kid who plays 6, centre or lock. Explosive and dynamic with amazing play making ability. Dropped off the map at the Bulldogs preseason after Gus said he was locked up long term. Saw he was lining up in NSW cup for the Warriors a few weeks ago but I don't think he has a contract there. Rumors were he was into some sort of trouble in Sydney and headed home to NZ. In the right environment he is a home run hit. MASSIVE talent.

FYI long story, but Trew left the Broncos due to an injury that he wasn't recovering from. He stepped back from the high intensity to reset himself physically & mentally. The Souths' plan was good in theory (building himself up through the grades) but all of their grades were getting pumped every week and no one in those teams was able to show what they could do.

He's been absolutely killing it in Rugby and is almost certainly taking a deal in Japan. It's not a huge deal, but considerably better than a base NRL contact, and all their living expenses are paid for so they pretty much bank it all except for what they spend socially. He would have left already but he's loving playing with his Rugby team so much that he wants to finish off the season with them.

The plan is to spend a couple of years there and come back to Australia to give it another crack with a bit more experience, wisdom & confidence.

Glad it's working out for him

OK, I just can't take it anymore.....

"Chevy Stewart - Should of, could of, would of"; it's should HAVE, could HAVE, would HAVE

Meyn / Riccio are reporting that Jesse Arthars will leave the club at the end of the year due to salary cap pressures and the log-jam of rising outside backs.

I don't like this at all. We're losing Anderson and likely Gem, plus still not sure about how Mariner will return. I'm sure we could find the money for him.

Unless, of course he is asking for a big increase.

Especially since young Coates will almost certainly go to PNG

Surprising, since I thought since Anderson is going that it would mean Arthars would be kept as a backup. Maybe he can get more money elsewhere and he would be in the starting lineup of a club. I don’t blame him for wanting to go elsewhere though.

I hope this doesn’t mean we’re willing to meet Shibas asking price of $600k. That is way too high from the clubs perspective.

On the contrary, I can understand that both of them being on late 20’s wanting more coin. They got to do what’s best for their families. I wish them both all the very best.
