Ashley Klein is a corrupt dud

Have just been chatting to a guy at work (Tolerating him moreso). He, knowing I'm a Broncos fan, says, after some small talk about magic round, "Oh you going to blame Klein too, or look at people like Walsh throwing 1 hand passes"? For starters, the game was already over when Walsh made that pass, and Walsh making that pass, doesn't take away from all the penalties in the first half, in fact, I would argue us trying to play 2nd half catch up again, leads to more of that shit being in his game. I don't think Klein is the sole reason we lost at all, nor do I think realistically he goes out there to make sure we lose.

Do I think he has a terrible sense for the game, and likely follows his tip sheet a little too closely? Yeah probably. Do I think he absolutely gets carried away/trigger happy as soon as one team has momentum? Yep. Do I think that this probably means he misses things the team with momentum are doing? Yeah, I do. It's pretty much all of them though that do this, they all want the bigger games and to keep their jobs, so they are going to follow their tip sheets.

I think where many people get lost in all this, is connecting being annoyed at certain calls, to determining the results. I can be annoyed at the penalty/six again count on the weekend and also acknowledge we were ass, were terrible in the ruck, made too many errors and were the inferior team. Anyone, who supports any team, that for a couple weeks in a row has been absolutely belted for infringements, whilst their opponents are deemed 'perfect', ie, giving no infringements in the same period, are going to be annoyed and want answers.

Ponderings of a man who just wanted to enjoy his lunchbreak in peace only to be reminded of the weekend...
Whenever anyone says something shit to me about the broncos I just hit them with “yeah but we’re the premiers”. If they come at me again they get the slow one word “premiers”. And that just gets repeated.

It’s not much but it’s honest work and all I have. 😢

You skipped the main element.

That's all interpretation. How do the referees qualify that? Atkins certainly didn't apply that interpretation and it's seldom viewed that way in an instance like Sunday.

Again, it's not a black and white rule.
You think that tackle was effected in the quickest possible manner?
Sure.
I only posted the rule as a bit of info and was clear in what I thought of the ruling which was similar to your view.
What is black and white is you looking for an argument when there isn't one.

In that situation how could they have completed the tackle any sooner? It wasn't like Mahoney provided a proper counter-balance so there was still momentum in the tackle.

I appreciate you pointing the rule out but you shouldn't get so defensive of it when there's clearly flaws. That wasn't how the rule was applied on Sunday, the rule allows for some interpretation and obviously they see things differently.

As you said play on.

You still defending the refs? The media is turning on them and the noise is getting louder by the week now, so I assume this opinion will turn soon too.

Not sure if this is for me but no not defending the ref.
Cut and pasted the rule for general info.
As far as that tackle is concerned play on no 6 again.
I can see how the ref could apply the rule to that tackle but that's a ref with zero feel for the game or looking to establish himself early in the game.

I don't remember a time when the refs have been worse TBH.
This 6 again rule is the worst thing to happen to rugby league for all reasons discussed on here.

I don't think I've ever seen fans across teams as united about this point ever. I do not know a single person who even likes them, let alone loves them. I have no idea which yes men Vlandal is talking to about them but he needs to actually talk to fans.

I can only think of the commentators and media that are typically "I like six agains because we need fatigue in the game, but I dont like.... blah blah blah"

Matty Johns, Joey, etc. that all talk about the game needing fatigue to make sure the little guy can still play the game.

Because Matty Bowen, JT, Preston, etc. were obviously all giants in the game that wouldnt be able to survive under the old rules.

They havent realised that fatigue = touch footy = the most basic dumbed down version of the game (run through the middle until it collapses and then just run wild).... yet they keep pushing that more fatigue is needed.

Additional fatigue was brought in to counter how structured & suffocating defence was becoming (the wrestle strikes again, but the increased fitness in the game in the early '00s is what kicked it off). The talking heads wanted to tip the balance back towards attacking plays by tiring defenses out. IMO, instead of highlighting just how good players like Lockyer, Thurston etc were, instead it has just made the jobs easier for the mediocre halves, who would normally have to plan ahead and build pressure / fatigue over the whole 80 minutes, and strike when there was a chink.

Now, with the 6-agains, a team can build pressure & get field position in a single set by milking (or being gifted) a couple of 6-agains which gets them to the opposition line & leaves the defence scattered. It's such a cynical cheap way to produce points for entertainment value, and it's no surprise there's a lack of true controlling halfbacks coming through the game. Load your team with fullbacks and milkers, or just be one of the darlings, and the refs control the game for you.

Vlandal will be suing the pants of the ABC for daring to speak out of turn and say what everyone knows.

I think set restarts have a place to punish the wrestle, and it’s over the 50 metre line. If a team wants to slow shit down and **** around before it then blow a full penalty and the attacking side can make their way up field.

This seems so easy, I don’t know why the powers that be have to make it so dumbo. Then again I am a dumbo so maybe I’m looking at it like a simpleton and not looking at the bigger picture.

It was pretty much this last year (the 40 metre line instead of the 50), and I have absolutely no idea why they changed it to the 20. Maybe , when they originally changed it to the 40, they did so because they thought a penalty would be more beneficial to get them out of their own end, but then realised that it just ended up with the attacking team up the other end and stuffing around with a couple of settlers before pulling the pin to put on a play. A 6-again, even deep in the opposition half, generally still ends up with the attacking team getting in to an attacking position, but with the added benefit of momentum as the 6-again has put the defence on the back foot. And the optics & excitement of a team pushing up the whole length of the field in one* (*albeit extended) set.

A good solution for more fatigue if they wanna get rid of the 6 agains…..add 5 minutes to every half,90 minutes like soccer. More of a better quality product. Win/win.

Not your worst suggestion...
With the new rule each year
Why the **** not...?
Let have injury time too.

Or make it like afl and stop the clock every single stoppage or when the ball goes out….more in-game time.
