2026 NRL General Discussion Thread

I dont think Fox is likely to lose the NRL without a big fight. They would lose a big chunk if their subscribers without league.

My guess is that the new deal will replicate esstially the same deal we have now. Fox/Nine split.
It will go to whoever sucks up to Vlandys the most so it isn't leaving Fox.

I think Fox/DazN is more likely to get everything than lose anything, including Origin.

Then because of that rule on F2A, they'd share the 2 games or whatever the requirement is with 7 or 10.

Splitting the service up would suck, but it going anywhere other than Fox would suck for folks like me.

I follow MotoGP, WorldSBK and NRL, so a single subscription gets me 3 sports. If NRL ended up on Prime or Stan etc I'd be paying 2 subs, which I'm unlikely to do, so something misses out (probably NRL because I can watch half or more Broncos games on 9 and the rest later via the website etc. MotoGP and WorldSBK don't have that option)
I dont think Fox/DAZN can afford to lose NRL.

NRL and AFL are the primary reasons people have Foxtel or Kayo at the moment.

If they lose the rights there will be mass cancellations

Hannay has installed co-captains at the Titans (mid season).

Mo Fotuaika has been announced as Tino's co-captain

I dont know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but of course it had to line up with the broncos game.

I guess they didnt have any injured players to return.

Australia’s anti-siphoning laws ensure that culturally significant and nationally important sporting events remain accessible for free to the general public, rather than being bought up exclusively by pay-TV or paid streaming services.

Origin will stay FTA.

If NRL goes exclusively to Fox or another streaming service it will die within a generation.

Every sport not on FTA suffers dramatically - union, V8 Supercars (obviously other factors there too) come to mind.

Vlandys will be signing its death warrant FTA loses any more games IMO.

Sure, but it may also be shown live on Fox if they win the rights in full which they aren't able to do currently, no?

Tough viewing

I saw the announcement on Facebook this morning. The line they'd plucked from the interview was...

"I had 3 goals, to play NRL, buy my parents a house and then to top myself"

...and there were laugh reacts to it. I'll never understand what people get out of doing that.

I noticed that too, on almost all of the posts about it coming up in my feed. Looked like 20-30% of reactions were the 'laugh' reaction. I always have a bit of a look at the bunch and so many of the photos were of dudes with their families, like posing with multiple young children. Crazy stuff. We're a society in regress.
