THE BOSS Maguire Stomped The Naysayers! But...8 Months Later, Here We Are.

I think he’s stuck with his bad selections too long, has too many players in the team playing over complicated roles and doesn’t use his bench well. Theres been too often where we’ve used 3 interchange players.

He gets some leeway but it’s going to wear thin if he can’t see the issues that the club has.

Signing Hunt and Gagai is the answer to our useless overhyped juniors.

On Jimmy’s 24hr podcast, Brent Read came out and said what you’re hearing about Brisbane, It’s worse.
I take it as player revolt. This isn’t a happy group. It’s showing on field (probably off it too..)
You just don’t go from premiers to the dog house in 6 months. Injuries or not.
I take it back to Madge’s push for the World Cup challenge. It’s snowballed from there, well really a couple of weeks prior when Payne walked out on us.
How the **** would Read know? Are you this gullible with everything in your life?

The never ending whispering campaign by the media against Madge, that started well before a ball was even kicked, is beyond ridiculous now, it’s a witch-hunt.

Last years minor premiers & last years grand finalists will also both likely miss finals, yet the coach that won it last year is the only one under pressure by media questioning his position? Oh and he’s also had far more injuries than the other two… but they don’t acknowledge injuries if it’s Brisbane, they’ll just go on about the star studded roster without making the connection to them actually being on the field!

Now Dobbo the fat **** just says shit like “we have all heard the stories” without saying what these apparent stories are, even when called out to tell them by Graham. It’s so ridiculous.

What a privilege it is to be owned by the same media company that constantly talks shit about us. Thanks for everything you do News Corp.

At least Fox Sports has a different owner these days, even though nothing has changed. Actually it’s probably gotten worse as well. Ostracising the biggest fan base in the game makes no sense. I suppose non-Broncos fans are a bigger base than Broncos fans, but not by much. Why doesn’t the club ever speak up? Are we too busy becoming a fashion label, toy company and influencing brand to care about the things that matter to rugby league fans?

They do it because they can.

It gets them the clicks from:

Broncos haters - who love negative stories about the club

Broncos fans - the many who are ready to believe everything negative about the club and everything printed or spoken about in the media

Other Broncos fans - the many who will just click on anything Broncos related even if it is BS and causes them to be outraged.

Unfortunately, there really is no downside that will stop the media shitting on us in a daily basis ... Our majority shareholders are the worst bloody offenders as well

They've all heard the stories. From each other. There are stories about the stories whirling around everywhere, but no one seemingly knows what the actual stories are or whether these stories actually exist.

I’ve been saying that for a while now. Now I’m of the thought process that if you click on anything rugby league related you’re an idiot, even more so if you pay for it.

I think it helps if you see RL reporting like reality tv reporting. They aren't really reporting on it as if it's a sport, they are just doing whatever they can to get the most clicks/engagement etc.

It's shit, but you just can't look at nearly all of it as serious reporting. It's all echo chambering the same rumours, stroking each others egos, and jumping on board the latest scandal.

Yep, they've all heard the stories...from Gordie and Kevie most likely.

The story could also be something like Reynolds saying to Dobbo at golf (if they still golf together anyway?

"Yeah, Madge is a really tough trainer and some of the boys are struggling with it...but hey, it'll all be worth it in the long run"

Cut the end off it and there's your story.

If Madge gets sacked by the Broncos the very next day the same journos who are death riding him 24/7 will be gushing over how good he will be at a Sydney club/ Melbourne/ origin.
100%

If Madge is sacked, I don't know what coach would want to take the job. Seriously if you can't get any leeway after winning a premiership, when can you?

"Mate, how good would he be at the Dargons? They need a harder edge and Madge will certainly give them that"

If they sacked him this season, I think I'd have to start questioning my loyalty to the club tbh.

Obviously that would depend very much on the fallout after.

The Broncos aren't going to sack him unless 2027 ends up terrible as well. The media can make up as much as they want, he can just flash his premiership ring and tell them to shut up.

Look I have reservations about the guy long term but in the short term, back him in and if any players don't want to get on board, boot them no matter who they are. The players have run the asylum too long as it is. We need a complete system overhaul and the best bloke to do this is most probably the most recent premiership winner.

I think all the commentators are asking the wrong questions. Out of all of our players there are very few who are playing better football than what they did in 2023. If we are being honest probably Mariner is the stand out on form but even in 2025 I dont think we played better football than we did in 2023. The argument for Kev has some substance in that regard.

Where it comes unravelled is madge is in his second year at the broncos. He deserves 3 or 4 years to show the same improvement we saw under kev. The reality is, his story is just starting out and you cant go by 'what ifs' until madge has had the same opportunity that Kevy got.

Madge will be given grace this year, despite performing worse than kev in 2024. But next year I would suggest the kniveswill be out. If theres no improvement, hes cooked!

What i wish people would understand is that Kev was absolutely the guy we needed coming from a wooden spoon. Madge was absolutely what we needed after losing the grand final. We should all just agree the club has got coaching decisions right over the last 5 years. We dont go from wooden spoon to premiership otherwise!

I think Webster is the only coach I'd consider to be an upgrade long term. Ivan (until Uncle Nick promises to write him into his will to get him and Nathan to the rorters) and Belly (most likely) are gone within the next 24 months, and Bennett can't keep going.

Madge will be easily the most accomplished coach left in the game soon.

In 2025, all these players were going better than even 2023:
Walsh
Haas
Mariner
Karapani
Shibasaki
Staggs
Paix
Jensen
Willison
Piakura
Riki
Hetherington
Smoothy
Difference

That's an impressive list. And honestly, given all the injuries this year, there have still been some good players backing up:
Mariner until injury
Karapani until stupidity
Willison until having to play 85 positions
Semu until injury
Rogers

The players who look to have gone backwards really are only:
Staggs
Talty
Carrigan
Walsh
Shibasaki
Mam
Reynolds
Bunt

And honestly out of those, Shibasaki has just reverted to career standard. Carrigan and Staggs have been carrying injuries and Walsh was never going to be able to carry his end of 2025 form because it was unsustainable.

Reynolds and Bunt are just at the end and the wall has hit. Talty is being asked to do too much because of all the injuries. Mam is the disappointment but even then, he's been behind a forward pack that is broken and thinks backwards is forwards. Even then, he's still pulled out some good plays here and there.

Its just a bad year. The challenge though will be to have the team performing without Haas to save the day next year and a rookie halfback (unless Maguire backs Bunt in which I hope he doesn't).

The two glaring issues for Maguire this year has been backing in his premiership old men for one more return to the well that just isn't there unfortunately and some absolutely terrible bench use. This year is a mulligan, 2027 is where it all hinges.
