Corey Oates is the shittest fucking second rower to have ever claimed to second rower fame. **** me dead the **** was so shit it’s not even funny. How you can even remotely compare that **** to capewell from the bench is insulting. Big whoop the **** missed a fucking tackle like 6 other blokes who didn’t follow on the inside that play. Still shits on Oates in every metric of what we need from a bench player. Just talking rubbish suggesting second row and middle. Good for him he has a decent carry out of the own end he fucking sucks at remotely anything else needed to be a forward. SUCKS. He’s a club legend but I’d sack him tomorrow to make sure he doesn’t play in the forwards. Sure he can play 17 covering the backs until we find a suitable option but if we go the whole year with him at 17 we will be so far off premiership quality it’s not even funny. I’d sack him tomorrow if it meant getting Kurt back and I genuinely mean it. How much weaker our team is without a 3rd forward who can cover second row and the backs is crazy. COREY OATES IS NOT A SECOND ROWER.
He's played a total of 8 games starting at second row for 4 tries.
He was a backrower before he was a winger, was named in the under 20s team of the year as a backrower in 2013.
If your going off Oates being a shit second rower off his form there under Seibold, it's fair to say everyone bar Payne Haas was shit.
With what we have available he can do no worse than what we've had as cover the last few weeks.
He'd be on the bench primarily as outside back cover with a chance of filling in at back row which he would be capable of, he's done that before.

Agree, i think its a great idea. Anyone could say our entire team was shit in 2020. That included Herbie, Flegler, Haas, Carrigan, Arthars etc. Now they are premier players in their positions.

So if I'm reading this right, you don't rate Corey Oates as a second rower?

Carrigan was quality too and was rightfully recognised as the co-player of the year.

Too many on here fell for the 'Cardigan' meme.

I think this boat has sailed. If Corey was to have transitioned to 2nd row, it would have happened well before now.

There's a reason kevie or Wayne didn't. Just like all fullbacks aren't Locky, not all winger's are Luke Lewis.

Sure, he's got the perfect frame for it, but no coach, on any grade, has pushed it. You've got to ask why? Corey has asked for it under Wayne. Never happened. It's not like a coach hasn't entertained the idea, but something has told them otherwise.

We're just over invested fans, spit balling. I'd like it to be true, but wiser heads say not.

There have been times Wayne floated the idea to Corey, particularly once when iirc Sua went down. For whatever reason Wayne didnt think he had the mentality to play the role. Or it could just have been he was our best winger.

That was as an eighty minute second-rower. He wouldn't need to be that now.

I've never said I loved it, but it seems to have more pros than cons right now.

Memory vague, but I thought Corey on his breakfast stints on triple m, pushed the idea under Wayne. Trying to plant the seed. Doesn't matter now.

Which coach wouldn't look at Corey and think 2nd row. 6'4 and 110kg lean. There's obviously a reason.

Poor Oatesy. I mean he is probably used to been announced in the squad and now he isn't needed. I am too excited about this week after I reach Brisbane I want to visit red hill probably buy the away jersey

Because he was always going to be behind TPJ, Fifita, Glenn and every other 2nd rower at the time. Plus at the time he was the clubs best winger, why fix what ain't broke. Neither are the case anymore. We have two premier back rowers in Piakura and Riki. Nobody is saying Oates is going to rival them, but what he can do is cover about 4 positions off the bench pretty comfortably. Its a no brainer.

Watching those tries back it seems Fletcher was by far the issue at second row rather than Piakura at centre.

First try he was loitering in the middle with Carrigan then at half, Mam second row, Piakura centre and Arthars Wing. Just got done for numbers and space because the middles had no idea they had to push across further because numbers were lacking. That’s something Walsh would communicate that Cobbo might not be as aware of. Why Baker was that far central of the field is a mystery.

Second try was Piakura’s miss but he had a lot of space to cover as a result of quite a late read and push off from his inside man (aka baker). Also Bakers pathetic missed tackle on Cleary that walked them down that end of the field.

3rd try non edge related from Kenny (no try).

4th try Piakura had a good read and folded Cleary but Jesse just shuffled across and created the space. Probably could have just waited for Cleary to pass and cover instead to give themselves a crack at stopping it but it well and truely broke down inside him and was well gone on the outside. Was a try either through them or around them due to Ezra’s poor read just meant they were 5 metres closer to the sticks.

From there the left edge was fine (Piakura went back to SR though) and the right just got done by Cleary’s dummy unders plays holding the defence up and Riki just to slow to be the last ditch cover defence.

Same again on the final try but this time Riki covered in time and they embarrassingly just gone ran through.

Good performance by Cleary without a doubt.

Watching it back his only defensive miss was the tackle which I’d back him to make next time but reality is he still wasn’t overly helped by his inside men, he had a lot of space to cover.

I’d be bringing in Hunt to the bench and keeping Piakura as the back shifter and then when TPJ inevitably gets signed Hunt drops out for him.

Hunt was good in the trials, but very very uninspiring in Qcup

Sailor isn't NRL quality for mine, but I still think he is the way to go at 1.

Cobbo has to keep developing his skills in his long-term position for us. Building relationships in defence with the blokes he'll be defending with week in week out when we're all fit.

The less disruptions to normal best 17 the better, even if I think Sailor is wildly overrated in some parts, from what we've seen. Against an average defence and you're on top, I'm sure he can look okay, so here's hoping we get Reynolds back and not have to worry about Sailor deciding games.

Carrigan was his inside man and hardly at fault for the play.

The knock on Baker is the play before his contact on Yeo was weak which allowed Penrith to get a quick play the ball. It just gave Luai all the time in the world to judge the situation and realise were short down the left and still on their line.

Good play from Penrith to force Mam to double-up and win that play the ball.

Think either of our 9 options have it in them to do what Kenny did to us on the weekend?

Reckon nearly every hooker will be doing it this weekend now it has the all clear from the NRL so hopefully by some miracle one of our 2 can figure out how to do it. (The doubt is strong)
