2018 Trials

Why would Fox telecast this ISC match? They are showing Wigan/Hull tonight and are televising a number of preseason matches in the coming weeks.
There are 6 matches televised, 2 of which are the World Club Challenge and 1 Super League game. So that leaves 3 NRL trials on TV. The AFL has 18. Even including the other games, there's 3 times as much AFL televised as NRL.

Hard to say. I personally would give it to Haas just because he's the guy that stuck out the most in terms of impact. Funaki did okay but knows how to drop a stupid ball.

Same for me. Just look on another level then the rest of them i think. Cant wait to see him in first grade soon i hope!

Probably because the two codes don't even remotely compare as far as popularity goes. The cost associated with televising a game is massive, we should be satisfied that a network shows all eight games live during the season. These preseason matches are boring anyways.

I think Haas and Fifita should hold their heads up high. But the surprise packet for me and not a lot will agree was Funaki he was strong and really aggressive in defence and really put his head down and ran hard with the ball.

Funaki has been my smokie for Round 1. Built like a footy player but dumb as a post.

Yea Funaki had some absolutely stupid errors and penalties in him. But Funaki is seriously as tough and aggressive as they come.

I'd say Funaki has no chance. He is behind Sua, Oates, Glenn, Gillett and probably Thiaday for a starting spot.

This will always be rugby league's biggest problem. We suck so we may as well put in a half-arsed effort. It's an endless cycle.

Televising a game in Theodore might be a stretch, but games in Brisbane/Sydney/Melbourne etc should be a given, even if it's just a single camera budget job.

Aren't comparable?! Lol..... population of Queensland and nsw outweighs the rest of Australia. 4 of the top 5 tv rating shows a year. LUCKY 8 games are shown live every round? Hahaha surely you are joking?!

I'd say Su'A may go with Oates wanting to go into the second row and Fifita coming through.

That would be good in theory if everyone in Qld and NSW followed RL rather than just the working class. I'm not going to get into a big argument about which brand of footy is more popular because AFL has League covered in every way imaginable (unfortunately). Just look at the broadcast rights and that will give you a pretty clear indication.

The broadcast rights doesn't give us a clear indication of popularity. It gave you a clear indication of Murdoch having a hissy fit when the nrl tried to lowball them via a deal with channel 9 first, plus there are less games for the nrl to show. Nrl has more games in the top 100 still on fox despite it being pushed relentlessly by newscorp. Origin and the nrl gf has out rated the afl gf 3 out of the last 5 years. The nrl gf in Melbourne out rates the afl gf in Sydney or Brisbane percentage and people wise every year.

I am not saying the nrl is more popular then the afl, but there are not 2 more comparable leagues from different codes in world sport then the afl/nrl one. Afl ONLY has the advantage now due to poor administration/Sydney centric bosses of the 90's...

apparantly we just scored ... 4-0 after 3 mins
