Value for money - Bateman's contract would be subsidised by the Tigers and it's only for two years. Theoretically it gives them some much needed depth around the Origin period and gives them the ability to manage Shibasaki who's a quality player.

It's definitely a gamble and the Cowboys have made some very curious signings so far this off-season.

Peyton must love a backrower... seems to consistently have at least 3 starting calibre backrowers on the books at all times... Luciano a couple years back, Finefeuiaki this year and now Bateman for next year.

Bateman, Luki and Nanai are all 80min players, so someone will be missing out on minutes.

When Bateman got rumoured to broncos a few weeks back I suggested he could be like a Capewell substitute for us... handy pick up for the cows... unfortunately... hope he tears them apart culturally instead haha

I'm a little on the fence with Brown... he gets hyped up so much by the media... he's good and he's a strong runner of the ball, but not sure if he's deserving of all the hype that he's generated.

Wondering if the wahs might go after him or if he just looks to stay in Sydney.

No they aren't, he has an option in his favour for beyond 25- he has to let them know by May 8 and then next time he can leave is end of 27. Then he's there until 31 if he takes up that option.

actually it's his manager who's doing the shopping.

The Eels want to keep him ... in fact they've been trying to get him to agree to remove the options in hhis contract
