Q-CUP 2024 Queensland Cup Discussion

8. Ben Te Kura – Souths Logan Magpies

Brisbane Broncos forward Te Kura was explosive with his time on the field on Saturday, utilising his 48 minutes for a massive impact in attack. The young gun smashed through a stunning 234 run metres with three tackle busts. He also made 18 tackles with just one miss to help Souths Logan to a much-needed win over Mackay.

9. Blake Mozer – Souths Logan Magpies

Fellow Broncos affiliate Mozer was also in fine form against the Cutters. The young rake played 68 minutes and in that time he scored a try and set up another three for his team. Mozer also had 73 run metres, five tackle breaks, three line break assists, one line break and 33 tackles in one of the best all-round performances of the week. Elsewhere, Kyle Paterson was strong for the Sunshine Coast Falcons with a try assist and 39 tackles.

16. Jordan Pereira – Souths Logan Magpies

The Magpies very much needed their win over the Cutters on Saturday and it was the likes of Pereira who stepped up to help them get it. The Brisbane Broncos-contracted winger scored a try and set up another, worked through 206 run metres, and recorded seven tackle breaks, one offload, one line break and one line break assist.

Tonihi v Wide Bay.

13 runs
4 tries
5 line breaks
2 try assists
1 line break assist
5 tackle breaks
274m

14 tries for the season to finish top.

I said on Saturday I thought Abell off the bench was the Bear of the game at the time.

47 minutes
1 try
11 runs
231m
1 try assist
3 line breaks
10 tacle breaks

Take that from your bench!

Did anyone watch and have insight on the Burleigh game? Interested that Ethan O’Neill looks to have played the 80 in the centres? Know he was touted pre season as a second row bolter. Wonder if he’s a look in for a centre/second row utility that we seem to be sorely missing.

Trial form and stat line reading has made me really high on patston this season, and I’ve seen he’s played centre in the past but maybe outgrown this as he looks quite big from all I’ve seen. And looks like jack Goz has now filled our specialist back row backup vacancy. Also seems he only played 40 min this game, perhaps he was injured?

He needs to do this or similar....more consistently.

Stats......?

He played outside Patstson and that's how he got his try too, Patstson put him over with a nice bit of passing.

It's only his second game for the Bears and first was off the bench.

Playing centre for Bears should be the best job in the world, just stand out there and collect great passes from forwards and give the ball to your unmarked winger.

Which is exactly how O'Neill scored and how he put Karapani over.

I’m aware he’s just come back from his eye injury to a new feeder, just curious about him being in the centres this week and wondering if he’s done a Bradbury this week with no Sauiluma and Troy Leo.

Because last week I was wondering where he fits in as he was originally named as 18th man. Does he make a fully fit bears side? Am I overestimating his potential because he played a NSW cup grand final last year and he’s not that good?

I just feel we are lacking that back row/centre hybrid body type in our squad now (staggs aside), and could this be a signal of us moulding one in house. Our other dev players (Patston, Stuckey, Page Cooper) are more of what we have, a second row/middle. I think the current state of the game requires more of a backs cover.

I may be alone, but I’d have killed for us to make a play for Euan Aitken early in the season before it seemed he was getting a look in at the dolphins.

He played centre and wing at the Capras so he's done it before. He's going to struggle to break into that Bears pack. Bench/fill in his is best chance.

With dolphins getting the second rower from Nth Queensland, and having lemelelu, kafusi, Bromwich at second row already.

Aitken could be interested in a move and is available next year (if his price is right).

Bears v Wynnum final- Black day or Black day?

Black has a bit to make up for today, last year it all went wrong and Wynnum were out on the first week.

Against his old team, Bears coming off a huge win. Finals, this is when your half shines.

The best Meninga players have won, Fifta, Mozer, Gray, Weaver, Walsh, Coates, Mariner, Piakura

No Allen for the Seagulls, that's a huge out- he's the go forward man but they have Bukowski, great hooker's try last week. Great service.

Abell was outstanding last week, he's great off the bench for the Bears.

The outside backs are just mouthwatering-Coates, Inness, Tonihi and Tanner.

I think Bears by two. With Milford dominating the middle.

Shame we can’t watch this one online. Would be good viewing

Innes try in the left-hand corner.

Black 1/4

Keeping Wynnum in this at 18-6.

Bukowski gets Wynnum back; he had a chance earlier sold the dummy but then the pass was poor after he created space.

This time, nice ball for Armstrong, that's a great captain's try, hard straight and gets your team back.

18-12.

Bears four tries in 19 minutes, if you let them get down there, massive outside backs score.

Wynnum took two chances; they need to be more patient and just let Bukowski just work away.
