2025 Pre-season discussion. Training the house down.

You’re going off the rails bud. It’s a nothing story. By all accounts broncos followed all required protocols
Sorry mate, just caught it on the wireless and then checked the headlines in the paper and thought it sounded big news. I may have gone off a bit too fast..

Jeez.... can't wait for the storm, bulldogs and panthers to be given the same investigation. Once again, different standards....

Guys, just heard breaking news out of Sydney tonight. NRL investigating Madge and the Broncos for the torrid training seasion in the heat on Monday..Major concerns around regulations and protections regarding player safety. NRL investigating to determine if Madge and training staff followed safety procedures to safeguard player welfare considering the high intensity session in the heat..concerns around players gasping for breath, drenching themselves in water and, in some cases, reaching for vomit buckets.

Any player who looks in trouble are to be moved to the shade and have their rectal temperature measured. NRL checking to see if these tests were done.

The issue is, our club has a new news story everyday about all of our training sessions. I don’t know why they don’t lock the press and spectators out. Go find a place they can’t be observed

Quotes from Donaghy

“All our staff are well aware of the new pre-season guidelines,” Donaghy said.

”In fact, our staff did extra training beyond the NRL requirements to ensure our players would be looked after in the pre-season given the climate in Brisbane. We’re also fortunate to have (former NRL elite performance manager) Troy Thomson on our staff.

“We test our players in the pre-season, but we also respect the rules and make their safety the utmost priority.“

No same rules for everyone. Just new rules because someone died. The inquest said the NRL should introduce heat rules and follow up on heat measures.

Same way the inquest into Hughes’ death made changes to helmets and CA checked on helmets every session.

Every report out of week one has been about Broncos getting flogged at midday and vomiting all over Red Hill in the Heat. Brisbane is also hot at the moment. I’d be asking if we all remember our training two weeks ago too..

Welcome to the news cycle, Madge.
Get ready for an article to be written every time you decide to walk down the street, do a shit or drink a coffee.

Payne Haas has opened up on the players' new life under Madge. A few thoughts from him below:

- says a switch has been flicked in him and the players since Madge's arrival.
- after the 3rd Origin game, has came back and had a meeting with Adam Reynolds, Kotoni Staggs and Pat Carrigan.
- Haas told them things needed to change at the club.
- no more laziness, no more slackers, no more, no more messing around at training.
- Haas told them the players needed to be more professional, go hard or go home in other words.
- "I saw a few things that I won’t go into too much, but we needed to work harder".
- he wonders if there were psychological scars from 2023.
- "I was watching some of the other boys in the NSW team. The way they did things, I felt like we could be doing things better at the Broncos".
- "I took away a lot from what ‘Madge’ said and what he stands for".
- he has formed a special bond with Madge.
- Madge will bring the hard edge the players need. "He can be intense, but to be honest, I reckon that’s what we need".
- "I admired that about Madge and I think the boys at the Broncos will enjoy what he brings. I just can’t wait to get stuck in day in, day out. I really want to go after it.”
- “I couldn’t see myself ever leaving the Broncos without winning a premiership for myself, my teammates and the club".
- "It would be an honour to captain this club one day,”
- "nothing would beat winning a comp for the Broncos, I love this club so much".

What an asset he is to your club. Yes he had made a couple of mistakes outside of football, but he is all heart and you could never, ever question his committment to the club and his will to win and be the very best he can be.

One of the first things I said when we signed Madge was how massive it could be for Haas.

Reading about his childhood, his dad making him do hill sprints every day etc. His dad sounds like a completely off the rails hard ass. I think Madge’s on the rails hard ass approach will be lapped up by Payne.

Haas will love having someone in charge who appreciates hard work and effort as much as he does.

Haas could become that Sam Burgess figure on the field. I think he’ll flourish being made part of the leadership group.

I look forward to the north qld, storm, panthers investigations. Cowboys unlikely to train outdoors for the next 3 months...
