So, it’s a trial, but some of his selections leave me guessing what’s on his mind for the main squad. Why Madden again after a piss poor showing at Burleigh. Smoothy again, thought he’d give Paix a run. No Mozer.

Maybe he really has been thrashing them hard at training and the ones who missed out have earned a rest? They did say we had been training in match day conditions anyway.

Apparently, Paix has some calf tightness and has been with the rehab group this week

Depends how you look into it.

Madden and Smoothy need another trial to show what they can do, whereas maybe Madge has seen enough from Mozer to give him 1 game straight into Round 1.

I think Paix would probably play if 100% this weekend, but I don't mind it.

I'd still rather these trials being used having players on the fringe a chance to show something rather than playing guaranteed first 17 players.

Yes match fitness is a thing, but if they are fit and firing at training, it'll come in due time. 1 trial against a non NRL standard team isn't going to suddenly make you match fit.

I'd suspect that he will get a chance to play both positions during this game... Leota, Saxon and Philitoga all on the bench as other wingers... and was Gale the fullback at some point.

Hoeter another who might get some time on the wing.

The starting halves are sorted in Bhunt and Reynolds and he won't want to trial them much at all... they might get 20-30mins in the last trial.

Typically the last trial is where the full starting 13 and 17 will play and is the best representation of pecking order for positions.

Paix and Mozer not getting a game suggests they are the two leading the pack for hooker... Billy getting a gig at 6, but will play some time at hooker as well (so that would be 3 hookers selected for this trial). Billy getting some time at 6 also gives some idea if he moves up or down in the halves pecking order.

Reyno is not back to full contact till this week .
Neck surgery ? Might take it slowly in come back .
Who is his replacement if he`s not fit rnd 1 ?
