[2025 Trial] Broncos vs Bulldogs

I hope the Shiba and Gos picks are just a wake up call thing. If Shiba is genuinely starting of Mariner I have big concerns.
Hoping the same.
For context, Shiba is 6 tries from 30 first grade games playing either centre or wing. He’s never scored in his 13 games for Brisbane.
Massive plodder vibes.
Deine is 22 tries from 27 nrl games.
He’d wanna be the best defender we’ve seen to usurp Mariner imo.

I must be blinded by bias. Billy is mostly solid in defence but people talk about him like he’s Cameron McInnis or Andrew McCullough in defence.

I really don’t see it
But they also talk about paix as if he's 2020 Damien cook. They are both bog average but the last time we saw bill play a regular first grade game he didn't get barged over the line 3 times in a row.

I remember he bombed about 4 tries when playing for the broncos.

There was one against Titans on a Sunday arv, kick in goal that bounced up to him, which he fumbled for a 7 tackle set and I think Titans scored on that set.

It was super early in the game and would've got us off to a great start for the match... instead 7 tackles against and on the backfoot instantly.

I think I was just about done with him at that point lol

Shiba and Gos have been training as the starting centre and 2rf, with Mariner & Piaks as the reserves. It may change but that is the current pecking order.

I think we might have a hint at who the big whingers in the group that have been feeding Sloth's news feed about Madge's regime over the Summer are right here. Someone got wind of it and has put them in their place. Oops.

No he isn't everyone knows Walters is shit and only in there because of his father.

- Shiba was upgraded to a development contract a fortnight ago, making him eligible for round 1 selection.
- Hungry for a long term deal, he has left behind his child in Townsville to give his family a better future if he fires at Brisbane.

- Madge quotes:

“I’m looking at him for round 1, definitely,”
“It will all come down to this week’s final trial and Gehamat has a great chance to continue his form against the Bulldogs."
“If Gem keeps performing, the opportunities will be there for him."
“His application in the pre-season has really impressed me."
“He has been in the NRL system for a number of years, but I feel like he has matured, I wanted to see his commitment and he’s definitely done that."
“With what he has done in pre-season and the trials, he’s given himself a real good shot.”
“Gem is a lovely young man,”
“In my first meeting with him, I could see he was really hungry and I’m impressed that Gehamat has been prepared to move to Brisbane away from his family, it’s a big driver in why he wants to succeed here, doing it for his young one.”
“I like his style of defence,”
“He’s had to change his body shape and he’s done that. I like that he is very coachable. He sits in the structures that we want."
“I’ve said to everyone at this club in pre-season that I will give everyone a chance, positions are up for grabs ... and Gehamat is living up to what I’m asking of the group.”

Kev definitely opened the door for Billy, but from there Billy never stopped giving it his all. For me, that stood out last year. A lot of the players were just dropping their heads, and kicking stones and making everybody around them, even more miserable than what they already were.

Billy never did though. Credit where it’s due.

They seemed to cheer up a bit when Mozer debuted.

Because he was desperately trying to save his father's job. Because it was his meal ticket.

He was touted as a halfback coming through (think they compared him to Cronk... guessing because he didn't have blonde hair).

He was transitioned to hooker as we had halfback prospects in front of him... think this was guys like Milf, maybe Dearden, maybe Tanah Boyd and maybe some others (cant remember when Paix came onto the scene)... but we had no hookers ie. Business as usual at the Broncos for about 20yr.

It was a move probably out of necessity... but also FOMO. Broncos invested time into a young prospect coming through, but don't have a spot in the team for him when he inevitably becomes origin calibre, so better figure out how to squeeze him in to future top 17 lineups.

He was Toowoomba's Meninga half and captain in 2017 and won Meninga player of the year and they won the final over Souths- he scored a try and kicked 6/7. Then went Norths Colts and Norths Meninga in 2018 losing the final to Souths but he was captain again.

He was always in Queensland teams at 7 but where I think it went wrong or bit off was 2019-2021. He played half in Cup for Dolphins and three games off the bench.

I don't think Dolphins were too keen on him though. He was benched the first final and it's never a good look when your half all year is benched in the finals and then reinstated the next week- you lose, and he gets blamed. Which is what happened.

Round one 2020 he's at Souths- Hooker and been hooker since. Moved to Souths 21-23 and Wynnum 24.

That's a lot of change trying to unlock him and get the best out of him to me we are still having the same conversations from 2019.

And some here still think we’re not selecting him in round 1. Mariner should go well for Wynnum at least.

Or maybe .. that’s just his work ethic.

Tbh .. who cares what his motivation was/is?

He will still give everything he has this year to, and for his team and coach, whenever he gets the opportunity .. regardless of who the coach is.

It is what it is. Billy is there for the duration, and good luck to him.

I really don’t see it

Compared to huggy bear Corey Paix and 2 tries from missed tackles Blake Mozer he is like David Gillespie or Trevor Gillmeister .
Smoothy is slighty better than Paix and Mozer .

They're reaching and they have been for a very long time.

They'll be reaching should he be named in round 1 too, probably for an alias to go under.

And anybody who criticises his father is not a real fan, i know. He already told us.
