2026 NRL General Discussion Thread

So Coates can be signed at the Storm outside the cap?
Pathway players - I would imagine players that are not already linked to clubs on proper NRL contracts. Id say its a setup to entice NRL clubs to give PNG talent a run so when they finally get their club in there will be players willing to go back there and play for them.

Isn't the wording specifically players that came through PNG systems.

Like they've actually had to play there not just through ancestry / grandparents.

Although I'm not sure of Coates situation.

Don't we have a Coates on the books again as well 🤔🤔

Yeah because the NRL have suddenly realised that ****ing no one is going to sign for them

Id hate to be their first ever recruitment manager and coach. **** it was hard enough to get players to go to the fins.

What age did Horne and Coates move here? Both played for the Junior Kumuls last year.

Can someone explain why Canberra didn't take the option on Fogarty?

Must be something not being reported about that in the contract, clubs get royally screwed by player options so it's strange the club doesn't take up one when it actually wants to keep the player.

Given DCE's decision to leave Manly, not taking the option could hurt the Raiders.

A PNG pathways player would be defined as a player contracted as a PNG Hunters player and/or contracted within the PNG catchment area (or a combination of both) for two or more continuous seasons prior to his first top 30 or supplementary list contract.

Interest in Hunters might increase- I have always said I don't understand why no one takes more a chance on the Hunters players- no one touches them. It's been a failing of the Hunters that they haven't developed NRL players.

Look at Judah Rimbu- player of the year goes to England not a single NRL offer.

They have kids coming through .
Ricky said a month ago if it sets Fogarty and his family up for the future he wouldn`t stand in his way .
Sounds like a decent pay rise .

I think they thought a one-year offer would be enough and see their younger players have another 12 months but then Manly offered two and Canberra have had to revise and offer two now too.

Bet we could find a hard hitting line running second rower out of them.

Even a nuggety middle forward like the Erin Clarke's of the world.

That's always been my argument, they are already so physically strong and developed, I have always thought an S and C staff would salivate at getting their hands on some of them.

You'd love to think with this new ruling this is exactly what our club is doing. It has to be.
