2026 NRL General Discussion Thread

Don't play panthers until middle of origin and don't play storm until Rd 24 or something.

And then there's the fact that there are basically no premiership contenders this year
How about Raiders, Roosters, Warriors, sea Eagles. They are all premiership contenders and all possible top 4 teams.

I wouldn't count rorters as a contender or top 4 team, but they play them in a couple weeks and then again in Rd 24.

They play raiders next week in Canberra, so that could be an interesting match up... that's the only time they play them this year

I don't think Wahs are contenders, but they don't play them until Rd 23... and they don't have to play them in NZ

Sea Eagles will depend on whether Turbo is playing or not... they play them in Rd 21... and they only play them once as well.

AJ Brimson has had his application to switch his tier 1 eligibility from Australia to England approved

I reckon Des is trying to push Fifita out to have a big crack at DCE in hopes of keeping his job.

Some independent league media calling out six agains for what they are... mainstream media and officials keeping their heads in the sand

100% spot on, everything we have been saying. The unpredictability is really convenient, seeing as the largest increases in revenue have come from betting agencies.

Fantastic announcement regarding the Perth Bears inclusion to the NRL in 2027.

Loving the predictably narrow minded responses from WA people who have lived their lives sheltered from many sports.
Sad in a way also.

Excited as I live here, but of course the Broncos will be my one and only team though.

Travelling from Perth for games on the opposite side of Australia is going to be the major topic after they flop hard in their first season.

The Wahs moan about a 2 hour flight most weeks, imagine coming from Perth! **** that.

Yeah definitely.
It's always a talking point regarding WA based sports teams.

One question I do have is how and who is the travel being paid by?
It was a major issue during the WA Reds tenure.

How des the AFL handle it with their 2 WA teams? Is it a long running problem in the AFL that the WA teams are more fatigued? Who pays for their travel?
I realise you might not know these answers, but the framework is there.
Genuinely curious, lessons there for the Bears

There is no perfect solution but the AFL does some chunks for the WA teams where they will spend a couple of weeks in Melbourne and then a couple of weeks. Back home. There also get more home games than the eastern states, usually 1 or 2 more a year.

But the thing that helps in the AFL is you have Adelaide where the WA teams can play three games a year due to their version of magic round. That can break up the eastern seaboard travel which the NRL won’t have. This is potentially compounded if Perth needs to go to PNG and vice versa.
