2026 NRL General Discussion Thread

Agree on this BUT if we play the way we did today it doesn't matter because we'll be lucky to catch a cold. Hot garbage is being charitable. What were we at, 50% completions after 6 sets? Abysmal.

We need to be so much better in so many aspects of the game. I agree the way we've been officiated is playing into it but it's still absolutely not good enough.

We were at about 33% completion at about 15 mins in.

yo anyone watch the penrith warriors game? it was like they were playing a different sport to us. both teams playing with super high intensity and running intelligent lines + chancing their arm.
it was a great game to watch but also reflect how badly we are behind teams like this.

Our players are scared to do anything. We made numerous dominant tackles today that resulted in us getting off them as quick as possible and a quick play the ball.

Also teams have their own tip sheet that says they won’t get called offside against us. The dragons won’t have that line speed again this year
We won the pen/6 agains 9 to 3 offsides 3 nil in our favour.

We also got off them way faster than any other team ever has after smashing them in dominant tackles and stood on our line waiting for them to come to us every tackle. They were offside half the time and it wasn't called either. Stats don't show anything.

How many dominant tackles were there? I must have been watching a different game. Every 2nd tackle I saw somebody getting trampled. Their forwards dominated.

Was a great game. Up there with the best games this season. Those two times lightyears at this stage ahead of everybody.

Apparently Amazon Prime have put in a bid for 2 games a week in the next broadcast deal.

Foran has officially been given the Manly coaching job until the end of 2029

Surely even a guy as dumb and money hungry as PVL can see that splitting the rights is bad for any sport. Yes you will get more $$$ THIS time, but it will cost you fans, and therefore viewership, so the next deal won't get you those big $$$ again.

If you are only looking at the next deal, the next contract, and not looking 5,10,15 years down the track, you are not a good leader.

Problem with PVL is I think he is all about himself. He'll split the rights, get the biggest TV deal in the history of the game, and quit before the next deal comes around. When it does, and the game has gone backwards, he will just use that as evidence he was the best.

I hope they dont get that deal i.e. 2 games. I dont mind who gets the rights, but I dont want to have to subscribe to 20 different platforms.

Yeah splitting between services would really suck from the fans perspective.

Apparently the other talk is nine going all in for the rights to then steam games on Stan Sports and cut out Foxtel and Kayo.

Splitting the service up would suck, but it going anywhere other than Fox would suck for folks like me.

I follow MotoGP, WorldSBK and NRL, so a single subscription gets me 3 sports. If NRL ended up on Prime or Stan etc I'd be paying 2 subs, which I'm unlikely to do, so something misses out (probably NRL because I can watch half or more Broncos games on 9 and the rest later via the website etc. MotoGP and WorldSBK don't have that option)

I dont think Fox is likely to lose the NRL without a big fight. They would lose a big chunk if their subscribers without league.

My guess is that the new deal will replicate esstially the same deal we have now. Fox/Nine split.
