Brent Read reports that the final Storm offers were:

The Storm had offered a late deal to absorb what remains on the contract of Eels forward Ryan Matterson plus a $300,000 transfer fee ... This apparently fell over because Matterson was reluctant to join Melbourne.

Then the Storm offered a straight $750k transfer... Rejected because the money wont help the Eels footy program.
 
Storm really can't stop taking L's. How good.

I'm almost shocked Belamy signed on for another couple of years. Tripp must have thrown the entire bag at him in desperation. Once he is gone they really are finished. The downfall is going to be biblical.

The only saving grace for them is that vlandys hates AFL and will undoubtedly pull some shady shit to save them since he knows if they aren't having success on the field the club will be dead lol.
 
I still think Matterson would be a good gamble for someone if you aren't paying him much.
 
In the last 30 years has anyone wasted more money on lawyers than Rugby League, even divorce is probably sitting there saying don't waste money Rugby League.

Storm paid, 500k of someone's else's legal costs and then pick up their own bill to walk away with sweet nothing.

Can't help but think that potential 750k could have been put to better use in the game than Zac Lomax.

That's a lot of money that paid for Eels to shave one year off his release clause. The effort, money and result don't even come close to each other.

Rejected by Matterson, a guy with few options and Bai...to stay at a basket case club. Man I love that the Storm are just not getting their way anymore, its beautiful. Reminds me of the start of our downfall about 20 years ago. Hope it takes them 20-200 years to recover.
 
Nahh, that 750k wouldn't have helped grow the game in Melbourne, or their home-grown talent pool, the NRL will take care of that.

Its a massive embarrassment on this terrible club - its beautiful. I'm not even sure Bruno Cullen could have done this bad a job.
 
Lomax has already had a little win. He can now play NRL a year earlier in 2028 instead of 2029.

He might be able to bring that date forward a little bit more if he was to agree to play for the Perth Bears when they start up next year in 2027.
I think Parra might be amenable to him going to the Bears who aren't going to be a premiership threat initially rather than him going to the Storm who always are a threat.
Of course he still has to sit out this year but he has to expect to do some penance for this stuff up.
Anyway I see it as a win win all around.

Parra look reasonable by effectively not blocking him from coming back to the NRL but he still has to effectively serve a 1 year ban because the Bears don't start up until next season.

Bears are obvious winners as they get a quality player to bolster their roster.

V'landys should be happy as he is not lost to Rugby.

Storm miss out but those grubs can suck shit.

All good.

Which means it probably won't happen!

I think I read the parties came to an agreement including costs - the judge just rubber stamped it.
