2026 Pre-Season Discussion

One thing that came across in the GF rewatch with the players IMO was little or no real connection between Madge and the players.

Maybe editing to squeeze it into the hour made it look like that, who knows.
I dont think the training too hard has any merit but possibly thrte is a personality issue.

If that's the case it wouldn't matter if Madge did everything exactly right, in a football sense, when the enough players have had enough it ends quickly.
I think Seibs has similar issues but without the success.

I didn't get that feeling from it, I thought the way they spoke together was very close knit.

There's a chance Madge has two modes... one is presenter mode in front of the camera (knowing anything and everything gets blown up to the max) and the second is his actual nature that we don't see.

Didn't Ezra wear budgies with Madge's face all over them on his birthday... and Walsh was geeing him up on socials around the same time.

There seems to be a lot of noise around this, maybe there is something to it.
End of the day coach is there to get results, not be their best friend. Players may not like it now but will look back once their career is over and go yeah it was hard but he got the best out of me. They hadn't achieved shit at club level until madge.

At this stage it's writing itself, it started with this narrative about Madge, that he gets immediate results with his hard training methods and then stars drop off and want out.

Everyone sits back and watches keenly, Barrett says I had to tell him he was going to kill someone, wins a premiership, Payne wants out.

Everyone nods.

It's odd how it has unfolded and "followed" the script- it's just if it's some cosmic coincidence or not that is the next part.

I get the feeling this will just be the narrative that follows Madge forever like angry Ricky or intense Bellamy, over planning Smith. Even if he leaves the Broncos in three years and happily goes onto his next gig. He's become Winston the wolf in Pulp Fiction. He fixes problems, quickly and moves on.

Already exploiting and twisting Payne leaving, to try and sink the boot in while they think we are down. And this is just the beginning, Payne. They wont hesitate in the future, to use him whenever and however they see fit.

At least in Queensland, we were able to protect him a little bit. That’s all gone now.

From what I’ve seen, most fans at least, have moved on from all that.

Payne is, and always has been, all about hard work. Why aren’t the media running the story again from last year that came straight from the senior players that they actually approached Madge and asked him to increase their workload? I remember the senior players coming out and saying that they really felt as though they needed the extra work.

Media continually embarrassing themselves over and over again. No substance, no integrity whatsoever.

Payne needs to be back in Sydney because his mum’s application to be transferred to a Sydney jail has been approved, and he is going with her. Payne’s probably leaving because he’s mother wants him to. All just speculation on my part, but sometimes the simplest answer is often the correct one.

Payne needs to be in Sydney so that if 360 gets off the ground, might be even more doubtful with the world heading to war at some point, his family has support while he’s jetting around the world.

Here we go:
- Crichton has received the big name player clause and not been charged AT ALL for his obviously clear and terrible high shot

- Burns has received the no name player clause and received two weeks for his identical tackle to Cleary - I REALLY hope he challenges

He can literally roll out the same defence.

- His feet were planted at the point of contact... same as Cleary... both players ended up aerial after contact

- His arm was low

- Shoulder wasnt the "primary" point of contact

- No HIA ... therefore not moderate force apparently

- Ponga lowered his height

NRL have confirmed this is now a fine and zero weeks suspension.

Does mean they'll be in a world of hurt when the CTE class action lands, but hey that's all worth it to make sure the TV Broadcasters get Cleary vs Broncos in round 1

My prediction is that there will be a bunch of erratic decisions, until a Bronco does it and the NRL will come down hard (with backing from the media), claiming that players haven't learned from the Tough New Punishments* and will get a 4-5 week suspension because The NRL Takes CTE Seriously*.
