I dont really have any reservations about Mozer.

His defence probably needs to improve, but he looks the goods from a first grade dummy half perspective.

He would be a God send to guys like Haas and Patty... for service and space he can provide around the ruck, and even to Reynolds/Walsh/Mam because of the width he can provide from dummy half

I think he's just being held back because of the injury
I'd like to see him support more. Maybe he's not fit enough.

I'm optimistic, but agnostic, over Black and Bucowski. Both very capable, but neither are what I would call freakish talents or canny game managers. Nor have they been inspiring their respective clubs to victory. Whenever I need to temper my expectations I recall Croft and Madden, also capable, but not freakish talents, yet Junior Kangaroo/Australian Schoolboy captains.

We are in dire need of football brains.

Mozer, on the other hand, has shown enough game awareness to warrant giving a proper trial at NRL level. I still have some reservations about him, too, but fewer than our incumbents. C'mon Madge, just do it already.
I think Croft was more of a 6, didn’t really have a kicking game his main thing was taking the line on. Jock also played 6 for aus schoolboys with Dearden at 7 and I think favours his running game more so.

Coby Black looks to me an out and out 7, stocky with a big boot, kicks goals, mainly a distributor but can take the line on occasionally
I would just like to see him engage the line more.

The attacking structure last night was a bit odd... I can't recall any block plays and sweeping out the back from Qld, so we didn't get a chance to see how far Coby digs into the line on stock sweeping plays.

That's a fundamental requirement for halves in the league at the moment and would give an idea on how much space he will be able to provide for Mam and Walsh.

He has a great kicking game already, which probably puts him above most average halves as it stands.
I think this is pretty spot on, qld weren’t really “block play” heavy last night so didn’t really see him engage the line much, he looked to be running a bit slow running into the line but again not much to go off from last night.

As much as it sucks losing Dearden and Walker I think for what we have (Walsh & Mam) Black seems like a pretty good fit. Once Reyno and Hunt are gone should slot in nicely

I actually really hope Black isn’t a crazy generational talent. We have enough of those. Id be really happy if he could just straighten our attack, defend well with an above average kicking game. That we could pay max 500-700k. We don’t need another brat demanding 1mil plus per year. Give me Peter Wallace 2.0 haha!

I mean I'd take another locky generational talent and puts club first :cigar:

The devastating realisation that the news worth getting excited about that Dave said a week or so ago was that we extended Mozer, Staggs, and Reynolds.

“Hey guys! You know that team that continually struggles to be first grade standard, we’ll get excited! We’ve extended 3 of them”

Filthy that we were dumb enough to extend Staggs

Can't agree with that, if we actually have a generational talent at halfback that's just about the best scenario you can hope for. You can easily let go of some other overpaid players instead.

Kevvie reckoned loaning Black out to another club for a season was a good idea .
Seeing he is behind Reyno , BHunt and Ezra for a run at #7 .

Dobbo reckoned Jock was outbound too .

Can recall that... although was it a leading question from Dobbo... i.e. should broncos consider loaning Black out.

I would not like that call at all... Black needs development, but broncos will be wanting him to do that under their watch.

They've got Reynolds there who can mentor him... not sure there are many other clubs where you'd trust them to develop him correctly.

They'd throw him straight into first grade and not really care if he succeeded or not... if he did they'd be happy and then try to poach him from us... if he didn't then they'd just send him back with the mental scars of getting flogged at a bottom 4 team

It would make sense for Madden to look elsewhere, he would carve up in the ESL.

I have extended Josiah Karapani for a further two years, based on a report in the SMH. It's technically still a rumour at this stage, but appears legit:

Update: Official.

Anderson v Karapani v Mariner v Gibasaki v Arthars will be interesting next season - 3 genuinely open spots in the backline. Though obviously Arthars and Gibasaki would be short priced favourites.

That is certainly not how I expected this to look at the start of the season. Happiest for Shibba I think.

If Staggs keeps coming up with defensive reads like he did last week he`s gonna be a very highly paid Q Cup player IMO .

You reckon they'd drop him after just upgrading him?

One of the things you do have to admire about Staggs in my opinion is that even though he has done some stuff ups defensively, he is giving 110% out there. I loved how much urgency he showed to try and get to Kennedy after his initial stuff up, that lifts your teammates.
