I don't need to cut and paste mate- I watch football.

You directly linked the dysfunctional Souths and put it on 100% on Mozer. Now we are moving the goal posts after I linked Grant's lack of Grand Final in the same comp at the same age.

OK so the next time you copy paste some stats we will pretend it didn`t happen then ?

Ummm ,,, it was Mc Hunt that brought up the dysfunctional Cup team not me . Never said it was Mozer`s fault the team were not winning .
Also I said his team mates from that dysfunctional cup team were making the extended squad and not Mozer . So the team was not an issue if the players were performing well .

Please try to keep up .

Bit of a difference between stats and just cut and pasting from a wiki page because you never saw the bloke play at the Falcons.

One more time Mozer only played 12 games this year, he started late with a shoulder injury and finished early with a broken jaw. His opportunities have been limited this year.

It's the position where Union and League diverge.

A League hooker is like a Union halfback, in that he's first on the scene to distribute the ball, usually crouching with a long pass. Whereas in League, the halfback is first receiver, rarely needing to crouch unless covering dummy half.

A Union hooker has to win scrums and feed line-outs. There's little crossover.

So someone who's played halfback in school Rugby will bring superior skills to the position, like playing AFL for fullback. Not only are they skilled at passing, they should be nippy at finding gaps in the line.

However, the League hooker is more often judged on how well they impede the progress of ruck runners and finish off tackles. Union tackles are messy affairs that are about switching position, so defence doesn't translate.

A League hooker can get away with mundanely lobbing to the first receiver, if they can tackle.

In short, I reckon a gun Union schoolboy halfback who's done an apprenticeship in senior League might be as good as you can get.
Mozer’s ability to catch an attacker and slowly drag them down, slowing the ruck is one of his skills that most excited me.

His attack has a lot of intelligence to it, but his defensive approach is where I really see the Cam Smith comparisons have some substance

Uncle Wayne set him up with moves that forced him to tackle low , one on one .
He failed that test .

Article below indicates the following players have Dev Deals for 2026

Phillip Coates
Tupou Francis
Braithen Scott
Jared Horne

Cam Bukowski & VJ Semu also noted as being on Dev Deals next year... I believe there is a salary cap relief component if a player is on a Dev Deal for 2 years so that would apply to these two, although I thought they were on Dev Deals last year anyway.

Hayze Perham was on a Dev Deal last year and has extended... unsure if he's been upped to a Top 30 deal, as you can only have 6 dev deals, but I would've thought Buk and Semu would've been inline for Top 30 deals.

Jett Bryce and Bailey Trew were the others on dev deals this year.

Not surprised by Coates, all the talk coming out of Red Hill was that he was being groomed for an NRL pre-season in '26. He's raw as anything, but he's a big body player and while he doesn't have the flair of Xavier his baseline production could translate well into the NRL.

Francis is only 17 but was a key member of the U/17s and U/19s victories. Also played U/21s this year. This is a future investment signing but he'll play NRL and he's the best player of his age group in the state.

Horne is a quality prospect but had a tough year with injury so he didn't progress as expected. Will need to make up for lost time.

Scott faced a learning curve this year and while he wasn't afraid to face things head on he's got a lot to work on. Still, it was only his first year of U/19s and then had to make the step up in U/21s so he has time on his side.

Based on that article, you could make the inference that Nio Verhoeven is in the NRL squad. Watching him play this year was watching Willison in Langer Cup - you knew you were watching an NRL player even when he wasn't having a 10/10 game.

No word on Bryce or Innes is interesting. Bryce in particular seemed like the Broncos biggest bolter in the trials. One of those players who seemed like he was being groomed for a backrow/centre spot when the team was low on troops.

Yes Verhoeven, Bryce and Innes are the interesting ones.

Could they all have jumped up to Top 30?

Innes sounds like a great prospect and was in the 1st trial last year... did they potentially send him straight to a Top 30?

Unsure if theyre actually correct on Semu and Buk though... weren't they dev deals in 2024 as well? So would be 3rd year on a dev deal??.. that would seem unlikely

From my understanding, Semu is signed till the end of 2027 and his final year is an NRL deal. IIRC he was a train and trial who was upgraded to a dev deal mid-season.

Based on my records Coby Black, Israel Leota, Bailey Trew and Va'a Semu made up the 2024 Dev squad.

I believe Rogers was also upgraded from a dev deal to an NRL deal in '24.

If Bukowski is on a dev deal, that's great value for money. Ideally, your dev players should be playing QCup and be a chance of playing first grade in the first three months of the competition. Cam held his own in QCup and had some class touches - it should put him in good stead heading into '26.

Perham was reported as extending his development contract. NRL.com lists him as dev next year (though I don't trust that list 100%). If the CM are right, then there's only one dev spot left. I'd assumed Bukowski, Semu and Verhoeven are top 30 next year, not sure where Bryce and Innes are at. Or Allen.

I reckon we'll see Verhoeven, Semu, Bukowski and Black debut next year. Verhoeven round 1. I don't know how it works, just making a massive call that will backfire.

I'm quietly confident Bukowski too plays a few games next year, there is just something about this kid that screams gun.

The thing I like about him is the fact his name isn’t plastered all over the internet saying he’s the next cam smith blah blah blah. It gives me hope 😂

Black's going to need a few more injuries up the chain to get a start, and that one-year deal for Duffy sounds like Madge wants to give Black more time at Cup.

But 100% agree on Bukowski. He might just force himself into the side on form. Same for Verhoeven.

The thing I’m liking about Madge is that he’s making decisions a coach who plans on being here a long time would make.

He’s not making rush decisions to get short term success. Seems keen to make Mozer and Black wait another year or so. Made Mariner wait for an opportunity.

So far there have been no big panic signings or re-signings.
