POST GAME 2026 State of Origin

Billy slater was allowed to play a gf after being cleared of an obvious shoulder charge. He shouldn’t be allowed to have an opinion on shoulder charges, he doesn’t know what they are.

Reece at least tried to make a tackle KP just charges reckless with his shoulder

Reece made absolutely no attempt to tackle.

He came flying in, shoulder to the head of a falling player, no send off. Atkins even says, mitigating factors because Coates is being dragged down by Reyno, just like Koula was being dragged down by Walker.

Patrick Carrigan in the Raiders game, flying in, direct forceful contact to the head with the shoulder, no mitigating factors, Smithies ends up going off for a HIA, no send off.

Go back through every sin bin in the past couple of years, look at how many direct forceful contact to the head with the shoulder are not send offs, even without mitigating circumstances. Because it's not a send off offence. There's quite a few.

It hasn't been a send off offence at club level, but somehow it's a send off offence at Origin level. It makes no ****ing sense. This was nothing more than a complete overreaction from an incompetent referee.

As for what Slater said, surely you understand that he can't say anything negative because of who employs him.

NRL GM of elite competitions, Graham Annesley said

“The NRL supports Ashley Klein’s decision to send off Kalyn Ponga during State of Origin one,”

“This incident involved clear and forceful shoulder-to-head and head-to-head contact with no mitigating factors.

“Player safety is extremely important and the game will make no apology for taking strong action on foul play.

“The communication between the on-field referee and the Bunker official allowed for multiple views of the incident, live and on replay.

“Confirmation of direct, forceful shoulder-to-head contact through a shoulder charge action meant the referee decided the correct course of action was to dismiss the player.”
Well thank god it's all been resolved!

Were any of those examples a case where the tackler tucked his arm in shoulder charged and knocked the opposition out ?

The ones you are using as examples where attempts at tackles wrapping the arms that ended up high .
Kaylin can running across field tucked his arm in and KO`d the ball carrier .
Not saying it`s a send off offence . But ,,, not the same as your examples .

Nah we should want Klown in game 2... he'll be doing everything in his power to get it to a decider.

NSW wont see the ball for 80mins

Should we change it to sack Klein for game 3 ... Or wait for NSW to do it for us 😝

It's more than likely been mentioned a few times but what frustrates me more than the send off was the 6 again calls in the second half.

Klein was letting the game flow to an extent in the first half, then after the send off all of a sudden 6 agains appeared attributing to our 12 players getting fatigued.

The host of ABC Grandstand League coverage was just going off (well as much as you can on radio without getting taken off air) at people who said that Ponga should not have been sent off.

basically calling us idiots and launching into a defence of Klein

Very interesting that this is all happening today. Why weren't people sharing this point-of-view yesterday? Almost like a directive has gone out.

The player is being dragged down to his knees, that’s a mitigating factor.

How is it the so called moron head of football is too stupid to know their own guidelines on mitigating factors?

But then if there were no mitigating factors, why only a fine? Cleary and Burns were going to be suspended for less because it was deemed there were no mitigating factors.

The NRL are ****ing clueless *****.

Only a fine because that is the new system.
Grade 2 was the charge but that is 23% of the match payment in Origin.

They know it was over the top. I don’t know if anyone else has been paying attention but for a long time now they always back the refs decision. Do whatever it takes to save face.
