@FACTHUNT, this is what us old farts like @tommy and myself are talking about.
here are the extended highlights from all 3 Origin games, but i warn you ... if you watch them, you'll become sad like I am right now.
This was Rugby League ... not the shit Peter ****ing Vlandy's dishes up to us on a weekly basis.
You have Fatty's no name QLD side going up against a star studded NSW side. no ****ing hope to win. but took it to those NSW bastards and beat them 3-0.
there is a famous story that Ben Ikin tells. He is still the youngest player to every play origin at 18 years and 82 days. picked out of reserve grade to play Origin. he gets into the lift at the team hotel with coach Fatty Vautin, who tells hims that fans aren't allowed on the team's floor, lol.
in Game 2 the brawl 2 minutes into the game has become one of the most famous moments in rugby league history. The spark for the incident was a promise the Queenslanders made before the match. Fatty had warned the team that the Blues intended to target the first Maroons player to yell out the "Queenslander" war cry. Defiantly, Queensland's players agreed that all 17 men would shout it out, and as soon as the first scrum formed, the war cry echoed across the MCG and triggered one of the most spectacular brawls the sport has ever seen. players ran from the bench to get involved
you have the QLD captain, Trevor Gillmeister, who has been hospitalised and on an IV drip defy doctors orders and check himself out of hospital to play in the dead rubber.
you have Billy Moore's iconic Queenslander call as the Queenslanders take the field.
you have Rabs Warren commentating.
What Peter Vlandys hasn't realised is that yout don't need 60 points scored in a match for it to be bloody entertaining. there were a grand total of 2 points scored in game 1 ... and to this day it is one of my favourite games of footy.
and in case you don't want to watch all three video's, you can just watch this one. this series has been immortalised in the Rupert McCall Poem "Forever QLD"

He had more speed after he retired.I forgot how ****ing quick Brett Dallas was.
Just when I start to lose confidence I see what Mr Laurie Daley chucks up.
I have been a big critic of Haumole before but he was objectively good in that game 1. Comes out and plays a stormer his next game. Record PCM and he is dropped for albeit a good player in Lucas but a guy that has never played right backrow in his life and its his debut. Haumole couldnt even make it onto the bench? Strange decision making.
He stayed on until 1997 after his second consecutive series loss.Is it the only time fatty has ever coached?
But doing that gets their sound bite and then “Walsh feeling the pressure, effects of his career being derailed by Madge” can be the headline on every show and podcast for the rest of the week.Walsh involved in a "tense" exchange with a reporter about his club form.
Sometimes reporters just don't know when to shut up and move on. Ask your question, fine. But if you don't get the response you're after, don't keep pushing and pushing until you piss off the person you're interviewing...
Didn't seem that tense tbh.Walsh involved in a "tense" exchange with a reporter about his club form.

It was actually pretty pathetic from there reporter. Starts out being pretty pushy asking about how he views his current form and Walshy says something along the lines of "The only opinion that matters is the media's apparently so what do you think?" - The reporter stammers and is like "I think it's pretty good really".Didn't seem that tense tbh.
Well not with that kind of attitude!!Didn't seem that tense tbh.
