I look at the current crop of eligible QLD players for Origin and I'm struggling to name a QLD B side. Yes our A side is dominant as can be but I think we need a second Brisbane team to start to nurture the young up and coming talent in the Brisbane catchment area. They need a path way to make it to first grade.

Front rowers are our biggest concern for now but I see it being a problem in a 3-4 years.

I don't claim to know every QLD eligible player but from what I can see, theres not a load to consider.

Can someone name a QLD B side that would be competitive in a year or two?

QLD have never had a great deal of players to choose from and in some respects that can benefit the side rather than hinder it. when you have the vast majority of players to choose from, you can fall into the trap that NSW has been in for the last decade, making multiple changes after a loss and not giving the team any chance to form combinations.

I'm not sure we need a second Brisbane team, but at least your reasons for wanting one are better than most (i.e. the Broncos are too profitable and we need to bring them back to the field, (although they usually don't phrase it that way)

If i was going to bring in a 3rd SE QLD team for me it would have to be either Ipswich or Redcliffe

1. Cameron Munster
2. Valentine Holmes
3. Brenko Lee
4. Nene MacDonald
5. Kyle Feldt
6. Anthony Milford
7. Corey Norman
8. Dylan Napa
9. Jake Friend
10. Scott Bolton
11. Coen Hess
12. Ethan Lowe
13. Luke Bateman

14. Jake Granville
15. Korbin Sims
16. Chris Grevsmuhl
17. Felise Kaufusi

Or something along those lines, plenty of talent available and plenty still coming through the pipeline.

I agree the NRL should expand but in different parts of the country first. A Perth side and a New Zealand side would be nice.

And yeah, I don't think another Brisbane team is going to work. I definitely think we need another SEQLD side at some point in the next ten years but if you name them the Brisbane Bombers it'll be death.

NZ can't have another team, it's just setting them up for disaster. I don't think Australians can really appreciate just how big Union is there, and how little league is cared about.

Perth is a must. The fact it hasn't already happened is one of the many reason I think the NRL are absolutely useless.

Fair enough but it should be a long term goal. The NRL was actually making decent traction with the Under 20s competition over there, largely because all the Warriors U/20s games were televised on Sky so they could become national stars.

While their commentators are awful, it's worth noting that Sky Sports had by far the best coverage of Rugby League of any broadcaster. Every game was live and they covered all aspects of NZRL.

1. Ponga

Talent aside, there's some great names in the 20's side.

Thanks for all the names. We have a few there but right now if we put our B side up against NSW we would struggle. I suppose we have time to get the next crop up to speed.

Bring back the crushers

Did you know anyone who cheered for them? Or does anyone on here know someone who cheered for them?

I don't think I've ever meet someone who did.

The NRL would kill for some of the crowds the Crushers were drawing in the early days, before the affects of Super League were truly felt.

I had a family affiliation, so I've got some old merch floating around.

That's only because they are die hard sports fans over there, and Sky TV doesn't suck nearly as much as Facebook.

I would be surprised if we ever see another team over there. The place just isn't big enough for it to support a second club next to Union.

I had mates who supported them, jumped on the bandwagon much the same for anyone who disliked the Broncos. But like any bandwagon fans started jumping off when things got rocky. To be fair it was a tough period of time for the game but the game just couldn't support 20 teams, especially when we were getting screwed over financially with tv rights and pissweak Sydney crowds didnt help.

It's a great leagues club, have spent many a boozy evening there.

Definitely don't want a 2nd Brisbane team. They would fail miserably.

We already have a Brisbane team and we don't sell out our games every week. Until then, there is no need.

Why would you weaken a stronghold. Sydney are struggling with so many teams, so I see no reason for a 2nd Brisbane team. Perth, Ipswich, Central Queensland & possibly another Kiwi team (even Redcliffe) should all be considered before a 2nd Brisbane team.

A team based in Toowomba could be successful even though I would imagine they would need some financial support to keep the club viable.

There is big Rugby League supporter base there and some great players come out of the Darling Downs area, there still is some top players coming out around there. They also have a great tradition in Rugby League and the NRL trials there are pretty successful, I remember going to some when I was younger and they always packed it out.
