Unfortunately he'll have to revise defence too.
When you look at the 2006 side that last won the premiership, we had some serious talent in there. Lockyer, Hodges, Webcke, Civoniceva, Tate, Thorn, Carroll, Hunt, Berrigan, Ennis, Thiaday, Parker and Minto. We are seriously lacking in star power these days, but we are still capable of winning another premiership, We just need a few tweaks.
Looks like the team is still waiting for Wayne to teach them how to attack. Maybe next year."I haven't even taught them how to attack yet" - Wayne Bennett 2015
Or maybe he has taught them "attack" and that's what we've been watching since 2016...Looks like the team is still waiting for Wayne to teach them how to attack. Maybe next year.
while true in the bigger picture sense, he can go play moral bastion elsewhere if that is truly how he thinks (which i don't necessarily think is the case, but if he did...)My theory is that WB is jaded and realises that the best outcome is not a 'premiership at all costs', but for the men he is in charge of to leave the game healthy and wealthy.
I don't blame him if this is true TBH, life is bigger than the game.
It's a good point, but I don't think our team is far off a premiership side... 2 players short of a genuine good team. Our game plan however lacks direction and potency. That's coaching and our playmakers ability to put into practice.Tin foil hat time.
Is it a better career choice for coaches to finish top 6 consistently than to win a premiership and watch their team be shredded by the salary cap. Does a 70 year old man want to coast through his next contract or have to go through another rebuilding phase?
"Yeah Milf, you linking up with Hunt is great and all but what I want you to do if you want to catch the ball this week is step left, then step right, take two steps forward and spin. Oh yeah, I'm still the Super Coach"- Wayne Bennett.Or maybe he has taught them "attack" and that's what we've been watching since 2016...
"And now Hunt... I want you to take the ball and feign right before dumping it off to Gillett but make sure you're at least 5m from the line though. Now for last tackle I want nothing but bombs... high enough for the chase to get there but nobody is to contest it. Also if we're inside the 10m don't kick it you'll just kick it dead. Got it good. Now go out there and just win FFS""Yeah Milf, you linking up with Hunt is great and all but what I want you to do if you want to catch the ball this week is step left, then step right, take two steps forward and spin. Now you see how ridiculous it sounds right?"And now Hunt... I want you to take the ball and feign right before dumping it off to Gillett but make sure you're at least 5m from the line though. Milf: "I remember seeing this amazing tactic last year that literally never resulted in a 7 tackle set. I think I'm going to copy it".Hunt: "Don't worry, I have a tactic so I'll never kick it dead Wayne".
* kicks in to opposition's feet *
Then he signs with KFC where the players can choose however many nuggets they want.That had me picturing Hunt working at the maccas drive through. The bosses see that the stock levels for the nuggets are way out. They realise why.
"Ben, I'm sorry, we have to let you go".
"Why"?
"We've reviewed the stocks and the video and I seems you have been consistently giving customers too many nuggets"
"Really".
"Yep, every time they're supposed to get 6, but you keep giving away 7 nugget sets".
