If some people on here had their way, they'd have forced Lockyer into retirement so that we could've hung on to Tim Smith a few years back.
This would surely increase our chances of keeping Jayden.
The only worse than losing him, would be for him to go to Manly. **** that!
Saw that coming as soon as Boyd was confirmed.
I understand the decision, but completely disagree with it. You don't let go of one of the hottest properties on the market.
I think it will come back to bite us, but that's life though...
You knew what he was talking about. Stupid, condescending point.Yes, because the signing of a fullback is always going to have an impact on your young halfback coming through.
Thank god we didn't sign any fullbacks while hunt was in the NYC, we would have lost him for sure.

No I didn't know what he was talking about. I can't understand how a fullback has affected a guy that can only play in the halves.
I'm disappointed that Taylor isn't willing (that's if he's the one asking for a release) to hang in there as our 3rd string half for a couple years.
We've supported him through 2(?) major shoulder injuries......been patient with inconsistent form. It wouldn't hurt his career so much to spend 1-2 full seasons in the QCup.
If either Hunt or Milford go down, for an extended period....Taylor gets his shot and repays back our faith in him. Without him to fall back on......it's a severe bump in the road.
Hunt for mine still isn't home and hosed as our half to take us to domination over the next 5 yrs. I believe Taylor could well be firmly in the picture for our 1st grade side.
Such impatience and short sightedness is a disturbing indicator for his long term goals in the NRL.
Yeah, because this discussion hasn't been done to death, and I haven't said about 100 times that without Boyd, Milford would be FB, and Taylor would have a good shot in the halves. :rolleyes:Yes, because the signing of a fullback is always going to have an impact on your young halfback coming through.

I'm sorry, I didn't realise it was specifically mentioned in Milford's contract that he would only play five-eight, and it's clear you obviously have that information available, given you categorically mention my "fanciful version of events" is not correct, right?Yeah you have said it but it's not correct. Milfors was bought to play five eight and was kept at five eight because people that are much more qualified to judge this than others have decided that his future lies in the halves.
If Milford came here to play fullback and was moved because of boyd then your fanciful version of events would be true, but it isn't.
So once again I ask how does a fullback coming to the club affect someone that only can play in the halves?
You say WB brought Boyd because Milford had to be five-eight. I say Milford had to be five-eight to accommodate Boyd.
Raiders five-eighth Milford can play fullback but the brilliant youngster will have the Broncos No.6 jersey in his sights after it emerged he will be mentored by Broncos great and ex-Test pivot Darren Lockyer upon his arrival.
You have to look at the timing of all this. We had Barba at FB, Hoggman at 5/8, Kahu & Taylor were injured, Jikorima was too young, Kodi didn't have Hook's trust, and Maranta was stinking it up.Nah, the idea was always to bring Milford on as five-eighth. One of the things rumoured to have convinced him to honour his deal with the Broncos and return to Brisbane was the promise that Locky would help mentor him and help him find his feet in the halves. Here's an article from May 2014: http://m.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nrl-p...-fiveeighth-spot/story-e6frf3pc-1226916176807
Of course you're right but you should realise that Porthoz has this moral code that WB violated so if there is any way to link WBs decision to bring Boydy home and the loss of Taylor, Porthoz will make the connection. It makes no difference that WB stated Milford would be 5/8 because WB is a code of honour violator, the worst of all criminal acts. Never mind reason or logic, they have no place when hatred and jealousy are involved. Our great position on the table and excellent attitude and spirit must gall poor old Porthoz, this was one of the few chances he has had this year to potshot WB.So Milford is locked in at five-eighth?
Yes he is and I’ll tell you, I’m going to persevere with him. He’s got X-factor about him. I’ve seen what Anthony can do at fullback but that won’t be where he plays right now. The club doesn’t have a five-eighth so we need one of those more than we need a fullback. He’s quite a talent, if I can help him along his journey. They are only young men so if I get it right it can set the Broncos up for the next seven to 10 years. That’s what we did with Alf (Allan Langer) and Kevin (Walters). I made a tough call with Wally Lewis at the time, but they were to go on and be a part of four or five premierships. We had wonderful players but they were the cornerstone of the team. They were the guys who made it all happen. It’s such a crucial position those guys play. They have youth and tremendous ability.
Incoming Broncos coach Wayne Bennett: I want Boyd and Packer; Milford will play in halves | Gold Coast Bulletin
Boyd didn't cost us Taylor.
Milford did. He was going to play 5/8 whether Boyd came or not.
