The game is being ruined by the way the game is being policed both by the law makers and the people who enforce the laws the refs. I cannot sit down and watch one single game without being pissed off at decisions that make no sense, take a long time to make and generally detract from the spectacle of this game. The video ref needs to go whether that be completely or just to rule on groundings and thats all. FFS we have touch judges for offsides and a ref in the middle and none of these three make decisions anymore because they wait to see if a try is scored just so they can send it up stairs.

Foi Foi gave away a very soft penalty which was clearly given after Hayne got advise from the Vid Ref and it gave Cronulla a victory when Hayne did not look like he would have made a decision. Obstructions never get called by anyone except vid ref's because the on field officials hope the play gets far enough to send it up stairs. The stripping rules are a joke, what the f##k happened to good old fashioned ball security. Scrums are a farce, either make them competitive or get rid of them. They should look at FIFA as an example and realise that technology detracts from the spectacle, video ref is just another human being forced to rule by the same set of BS laws that everyone else is just trying to figure out. rant/

Motion carried I say.

IMO the officials are getting no more decisions right now then before we had the video ref. Bring back the in-goal judges, get the touch judges to actually watch the game rather than spectate games from the sideline, and percantage of decisions they get right will probably actually improve.

The video ref gets - through technology, to look at a situation from many different angles, obviously not available to the ground officials.

Theoretically, that should make the game more fair and even.

Or maybe we should just get rid of technology, and post by carrier pigeon.

I am sure it will because the ref's will have to make a call and they have watched and refereed enough matches to know how to do it, they are just scared to because the rules are no so confusing and the have a turd in a skybox pushing buttons for them.

The video ref is killing the general ref standards, they send knock ons up stairs, they won't call shepherds, they won't call offsides off attacking kicks, they won't generally make any calls for themself because they rely on technology which slows the game down and spits out different interpretations time after time.

I think in today's Eels vs. Sharks game, the right decision as well as the right use of the vid ref was carried out.

As for ball security...well as soon as the 2 man rule came in, it was all over. In fact, i have often wondered, when the defence come in and wrap up the ball (not the carrier), if the attacking player just loosened his grip, the ball would spill and 9/10 it would be deemed a strip.

What needs changing is what the video ref can rule on. Your frustration isn't with the video ref, it's with the rules.

FTR, I would much rather wait a minute and get the right decision, then get robbed a GF or an origin win!!
Put the onus back on the carrier, however don't whinge when there is less creativity in and around the rucks, as every pig will have both hands on the ball EVERY tackle!

Does anyone have faith in any of the refs running around at the moment to make a correct call? I sure as hell don't. It is my opinion that the current referees are among the worst lot i've ever seen, and i'm happy the video is still there. If they were to get rid of it now, the referees wouldn't know what to do.

They would know what to do because they started out doing it without the technology and now they rely on it. The rules are f##ked and refereeing is f##ked because of it.

Agree with Hammo, The stripping rule is frustrating at times but b4 it came in the D used to go in and attack the ball and do anything to strip it out. It became rediculous to the point that a rule change was forced. The same with the vid ref, so many big calls were found to be wrong everyone was screaming "we have the technology why not use it."
so WTF do you do?

Refs couldn't cope without the video ref now days.

I wouldn't mind seeing an experiment with two refs, one policing the ruck, the other the 10 meters and see if that addresses the stripping.

The other more dramatic option which I would also love to see trialed, is restricting the amount of people in a tackle to two at a time.

Restricting players in the tackle? There's no way in hell.

Right. So a player makes a line break and you've got 2 fellas hanging off him and he carries him for the next 10 metres across the the try line whilst the fullback watches? No way in hell they're going to introduce that rule. We'd have front rowers playing in all positions then.

LOL! I've NEVER seen anything like you've described happen SimplyBronco. It doesn't matter how big you are, if you tackle well around the hips/legs you can bring anyone down. The reason you see big blokes drag guys along is because you get 2 or 3 tacklers up high and nobody going for the legs!

If you were forced to use 2 tacklers, you'd be forced to have someone go around the legs to stop their momentum.

I'm fully in favour of that.

Or a slight alternative, if more than 1 tackler makes initial contact nobody else can come in (no third man in basically). However, if it's one on one, then another tackler can come in to assist.

They should at the least make it so no one else can come in once the ball carrier has lost momentum.

[icon_lol1. Quite the exaggeration but it's possible in the context of play in a game though perhaps not as often as I first thought. eusa_think But the idea is there that the communication (or lack of) may be the undoing for many teams if this rule is introduced.

I actually think they have accidentally got AFL refs instead of NRL refs... [icon_non
