Beale to five-eighth next year?

I follow the U20's a fair bit, and I have no doubt that Norman is potentially the best halve of the lot (haven't seen much of Capewell though). His kicking game is by far the best and his running and passing game are pretty good too, but I do think he has to toughen up mentally and defensively. By the looks of it, Hook might just be the perfect coach to draw the full potential out of Norman. Let's hope he does!

Hook could turn Beads into a 5/8, Hook is bloody awesome.

Well I must be the only one who thinks Beale is better than Hoff. They are both very good but I think Beale brings a bit more in attack and that for mine just gives him an edge.

I can't see him as a 5/8 yet but maybe after a few years at fullback and using him as a ball playing option he will develop.

Sorry - off topic a bit ...

No, you're not the only one. I also think Beale is the better all round FB at this point in time. Whilst Hoff is certainly strong and explosive, and has a better step than Beale (atm) it's his real problems in timing his position in 2nd man plays which worries me. Too often, he gets into position too early and the movement breaks down. I also think Beale is a much better support player than Hoff (atm) and reads the game better.

In my view, Hoff would make a sensational winger. He & Yow Yeh would be lethal finishers, the best in the comp.

i actually like norman and hope he gets a chance. obviously he's been a bit soft/flakey but i think he can toughen up.

I don't agree Beale is better than Hoffman, but Beale at FB and Hoffman at winger has appeal to me, because I do believe Hoffa could indeed be part of the deadliest pair of FB in the comp, while not losing a lot at FB...

Well I think Hoffman would make a much better winger than Beale.
Nothing against Beale, he's awesome but he's not that great as a winger but he's awesome at fullback.

I think the team would be better with 1. Beale 2. Hoffman 3. Hodges 4. Reed 5. Yow Yeh. Don't know if it will happen though but I'd certainly like to see that.

That's my ideal as well but I can't see it happening. I also think playing Beale on the wing is like playing Hodges on the wing. He'd do a good job but what a waste. Which means who goes next year? Is Beale as good as Copley on the wing?

On topic, I hope Beale gets a good shot at 5/8 in the off season.

It feels like people want Beale at 5/8th just so he fits in somewhere in the team. I'd rather just go with Hunt or Norman for now, they are real halves, regardless of how well they've done there in first grade so far. Beale and Hoffman can fight it out for the fullback spot. I think Hoffman is the more talented player, but I agree that him on the wing and Beale at fullback > Beale on the wing and Hoffman at fullback.

But I guess the question is would Hoffman be wasted on the wing? He's certainly way more dangerous on that out ball-in ball play in the middle of the field than Beale. Playing him on the wing might restrict that, unless the Broncos play a style where he and Beale alternate between wing and fullback.

We're bound to lose one of them. They can't both play fullback, and whichever one draws the short straw will jump at the chance to be number 1 for another team.

I think Hoffman could be better on the wing, I think he's more athletic than Beale and seems quicker off the mark, so could turn into a great finisher. Who knows though, it's only early days and both players are still in their honey-moon period.

I just hope we don't lose one of them. Clearly they both want to play Fullback. When are they off contract?

Hoffman is off contract end of 2012, but the Broncos are already in discussions with his manager to extend him.
Not sure about Beale.

Everyone is welcome to have their own opinion, but I would have to say that the front page article about Beale is super optimistic... yes he is a good strong ball runner with good footwork... but a huge stretch to think he is even in the running for the #6 jersey in 2012.

Next thing people will be sizing Yow Yeh up for the halfback role!!

I don't think it's as drastic as that. We have an opening in the 6 jersey, and a number of contenders who have the opportunity to fill it.

Is it really that optimistic considering Beale has played in the 6 at QLD cup and under 20's level?? He has so much to offer and his strengths are not utilized on the wing IMO.

I think it'd be more drastic playing Yow Yeh in the middle. He'd rush out to tackle the winger...

The thing I really like about Beale is that he reads the play so well. His performances over the last 2 weeks, especially his support play and defence show that, and I don't think the importance of that can be over stated. It's a mandatory skill for FB ... and 5/8

At the same time I can't help but think that Wallace will make a much better 5/8 than half back. This is a complicated drawing board.

I don't think there's much of a difference between halfbacks and 5/8ths anymore. Just one of them plays 1st receiver on the left, and 2nd on the right, and vice versa.
