Ben Hunt is overrated

Ash Taylor is having another classy game.

He is going to be a great player in the future, but IMO, one of the biggest reasons Hunt and Milford have been struggling in the last few weeks is because our pack has been outplayed and struggling at times.

very few halves can have a major impact behind a beaten pack

We have made a grave mistake my friends.

 get your hand off it.

Hunt played well against Souths as well and didn't gift them a try to go to golden point.

It's wasn't ash faults. Hoffman faults.

You got Hoffman mixed up with Davis - even then Taylor just planted his feet and watched as Souths scored a try to lock it up.

And hey I'm not calling the guy terrible, far from it, I'm happy with what he's doing on the Gold Coast. But does every good deed have to be followed with a take that at Ben Hunt?

The last try the Gold Coast score. It was ash cross kick. His kicking game is good. The problem with Broncos is they don't have halfback who got good kicking game. Even in our reserve grade. That is big problem. So there is no pressure on hunt.

The Titans plugged away with that kick all game. It was a mismatch (McDonald on Nielsen) and it eventually paid off for them.

I just hope Hunt can put his recent bad form behind him. I thought he played well against the Cowboys, they couldn't handle his kicking game and he had them in real trouble until injuries took their toll on the side. Here's hoping he gets back to that form against the Raiders.

I am not against Ben hunt. Ben hunt and Milford are similar type of player. They like to run. Hopefully Ben hut get back to his last year form soon.

Me too BP, I would love a really good win against the Raiders heading into the bye.

I tend to think Hunt is trying too hard to be a traditional halfback and steer the team around the park. He plays his best when he takes the line on and plays direct. Just needs to get back to enjoying his footy and playing whats in front of him.

I agree with this. Possibly he is being over coached or the coaching staff have decided he just needs to concentrate totally on game management. He certainly isn't playing what is in front of him too often these days.

That's true, but we do need a specialist half too. Someone who can control the game.

Isn't that what we have Alfie for???

But seriously, maybe this is where we need McCullough to step up, when he gets back from injury of course.

Hunt has created 2 tries in the last two games with kicks like that. He almost created 2 more with infield grubbers to milford. Both were well read by the defense however. The tactic worked earlier in the year. I think hunt has played quite well I'm the last two games. He can only do so much in a team that is dominated up front and when other players constantly drop the ball. His kicking wasn't perfect against the tigers but better than the oppositions'. I also think he played a large part in the comeback towards the end of the first half this week.

I think Hunt is one of the best halfbacks in the NRL...most of the time. The problem is the some of the time he is not and that gap between his best and worst usually happens every game and it is noticeable. His worst also tends to come out in key moments which is where Ash Taylor seems to be excelling. I still can't get the Sherwin-Thurston comparison out of my head with these two. At least average-Hunt is a million times more often and better than average-Sherwin.

The Taylor/hunt compares are just ridiculous at this stage. Anything could happen and the claims of 'we let the wrong one go" can't be proven yet and at this stage are just hysterical.

Defences haven't worked Taylor out yet and as such we haven't seen how he responds to that.

There is ever chance Taylor will be better than Hunt. Just as there is every chance Hunt will prove better than Taylor. There is also every chance that every scenario in between occurs.

If every time Taylor performs well against a poor - mediocre team this is the reaction that comes out it could get pretty tiresome.

I agree totally with this except the bolded bit. For mine, and pls correct me if I am wrong, I see very little Cronk-type or in fact any real game management from Hunt. That is not necessarily a criticism of Hunt - I want him to do what he is best at - a running half who however, needs to work a little harder on his defence.

My issue is who controls our game out in the middle? Milford? If so, it's very patchy. My major worry about the rest of this season is not Hunt, but who controls our team, who manages the game plan out there in the middle... who keeps it together.

I am reminded of Cam Smith/Cronk, and Thurston as just 2 examples and separate to their skills as footballers, but rather, game managers.

Who is ours? (I am starting to think the loss of Hodges is becoming very telling who maybe did a lot of the game management last year, As ad hoc or not, that we seem to lack this year).
