OFFICIAL Ben Te'o Resigns

It's really important to have Ass coaches who can be effective conduits between the head coach and the group.
I'm hoping Madge doesn't take over as defence coach as well but he clearly wasn't on board with Teo.
Fair enough too . 66 points in 2 games is abysmal.
You'll find out a bit about Teo in the next week or 2 when we'll see if he tries to tear the club down with media leaks although I'd expect he's been asked to sign an NDA.
Ass coaches...

@FACTHUNT

Are you up for the job?....

You cant just give up all your coaching staff for origin either.

I think Kevvie did that one year where just about everyone was off coaching origin and we went like shit.

I think Ballin was doing it before Madge got there, so he was already an incumbent
There is no such thing as an incumbent. Is Madge the boss or not? He can tell Ballin that he can't do it anymore for the very reason he told Teo no.

Was he really a good defence coach?

We had to comeback in heaps of games, we need to be strong in defence across the whole 80min.

On kevvies Podcast he seemed really up himself also.

Explains the rough start to the year and leaking points his head has not been in the game.

So will a new assistant coach be coming in or will ballin and barrett split the attack and defence amongst them now?

Is there a potential defensive specialist that would be a good pick up?

What's Kearney up to these days?

He was our defence coach when Bennett came back to the club and defensively we were quite good.

I'm not overly worried about what impact this will have on the playing group.

This side has had smoke blown up their ass for years on end and delivered absolutely nothing. Then suddenly last year when the sky is caving in, they rally aroind eachother and use the negativity to win a premiership.

They seem to perform better when the world appears to be against us as opposed to being praised at every bend. As good as winning the premiership was last year, it wasn't off the back of incredible game management and defence. It more appeared to be off the back of wanting to prove the haters wrong and pure will and desire

I can see all the negativity around Hass leaving, the recent Reynolds/Tallish shit and now Teo leaving just feeding the beast and driving them to go back to back.

In any scenario, I think the performance this weekend will give a good indication on the players thoughts on the situation.

They’re hungry to improve because this was Madge’s first season as coach and my first season with some of my defensive systems,” Te’o told this masthead in the days after the grand final when asked about Gold Coast’s approach.

“You have to think that second time around it’s going to run a bit smoother and we can really dial into the detail.

This was a quote from Teo post last season. Odd to hear an assistant talk about their own systems.

you also can't afford to lose two assistant coaches to origin during a traditionally tough period for the club

The Broncos have always prided themselves on Origin staff and players and wanted staff involved.

I have never heard of a staff member being told no you can't do Origin. Especially when Madge has been in that position. In 24 the Broncos let Cartwright and Ballin go. What would have happened if they'd said sorry Ballin can go but not Cartwright? I imagine Madge would have had a different attitude and the speech would have been about wanting your staff to improve and it's very narrow minded by the Broncos. Or if Ricky had said in 23 you can't do the NZ job anymore, I am banning it. Madge even asked to have the Kiwi and NSW jobs at the same time!

It may mean a disrupted week but you're getting back a better coach and you're enabling someone to be better which will only help you. Origin has only helped Hannay.

When you have two staff already going to Qld camp, I think it's harsh to say no to the one guy.

If anything this might be a good thing going forward. As has been alluded to, Te'o was not Madge's appointment. At least he gets to bring in one assistant of his own choice.

This is not true, Madge was given the choice of all staff.

Sort of. If Teo hadn't already been hired by Walters would Madge have picked him? We don't know. He agreed to keep him on which isn't quite the same thing as picking him from a field of candidates.

He was told he could pick his staff, he kept the same staff. He could have done what Seibold did to JD and say you're out.
