Bennett slams Broncos door on Walters

Does Walters leaving mean the team has forgotten everything he has apparently taught them? Did the Broncos players sign a contract stating that if he leaves we aren't allowed to use any of the skills he coached them with? I don't get it.

Why would Bennett be looking after his job? I thought the expectation always was that Walters would supersede him?

Yes, but that thinking doesn't sell papers.

They have taken a step in that direction and I'm totally confident that we will turn up next game and really catch fire. I think they're back and not because of our narrow victory over St George as I thought this way before the game.

That's what I thought before the Penrith game and they humiliated themselves.
Pretty much the same against the Roosters.

Some of their attack & defense, particularly against Penrith was inept.
I for one wont be setting myself up for more disappointment this season.

not a sycophant but i'm quite happy to believe 1910 when he said weeks ago it was a non-starter, before it even hit the papers.

tallis carrying on just reinforces the fact he has no connections to the club anymore so he's probably read the paper like everyone else...

I don't really understand the 'we shouldn't need him' mentality. Based on recent form, we obviously need something that the current set-up isn't providing. If Walters, or anybody else, improves the players and their game, then I want them at the club.

At this stage, and as just a run of the mill fan and total club outsider, I really can't help but feel that a lot of the current problems originate with the coaching. From week to week there doesn't seem to be any indication that persistent issues are being addressed. It can't just be that the coaching is there but the players are uncoachable. There has to be something lacking, something missing, something different from last year to this. Walters mightn't be the whole answer, but he sure is the most obvious one.

Wayne let his ego get in the way of Kevvie helping out the halves. Disappointing. Anything that would give the halves a boost would be positive. Kevvie returning would have been positive.

It's very possible that Bennett wants the players to learn how to help themselves instead of relying on a saviour to show them the way.

Bennett said last year that he will allow the halves to be the halves they want to be, with a little bit of tweaking here and there. Perhaps this is one of those things.

Besides, it sounds like this was never on the cards anyway. Kevvie told Triple M there were very little discussions regarding coming back.

What a cop out. Wayne keeps saying crap like this. Makes me feel like he has no idea what to do. He's the head coach ffs. Coach these halves on how to be halves not let them be what they want because clearly they need guidance. Their confidence is taking a pounding. Did Bellamy just let Cronk become the half he wanted to be?

Well, I'm guessing he did because Cronk wanted to be the half he is today.

I thought Cronk worked hard outside of training to be the halfback he is now? Did Bellamy or Matt Orford hang around with him afterwards?

Well put, this is pretty much exactly how I view the situation.

It's an insult to even suggest Walters is the difference between last year and this year, the problems we've faced a far greater than one member of the coaching staff no longer being there.

Injuries, origin period, players playing out of position, losing and the loss of confidence that comes with that, other teams working out our game plan. There's plenty of reasons why, not that it really matters now, all that does matter is the team turns it around and proves to itself, and the rest of the competition that they are worthy competitors.
Bump!

So much for Walters being the reason for our good form last year.

He's secretly on the payroll, whitey and Wayne are geniuses!
