Best/Worst Footballer you've met ?

Best by far I have had was Wendell Sailor I got the chance to play golf with him would have been about 97 or 98 and I was 12 or 13 at the time and he was a big idol of mine. I was playing at my local course on school holidays by myself and in the group ahead was Wendell with some random I didn't know. As I was on my own I caught them after 5 or 6 holes and was starting to wait on them to finish before I could play. Normally in that situation you let the other person play through but Wendell seeing me as I youngster I guess assumed I was a big Broncos fan and didn't ask me to go through but actually asked me to join him and his friend. I was obviously wrapped and played the final 10 or 11 holes with the two of them. I said thanks Mr Sailor which he instantly corrected me saying to call him Wendell and he even started asking me about school and what other things I was interested in. He also started to sledge me a little bit and joke around with me which I thought was the most amazing thing at the time. I just couldn't have been more impressed that he would take the time to make a kids day so good even though he was well within his rights to just let me play through. I still have the signed scorecard with his autograph at home somewhere.

With my work, I've had the opportunity to meet most of the 2000 - 2007 Broncos & except a few, everyone has been genuinely happy to say hello & many very down to earth. I think it really depends on when & how you interact with them.

The guys who went out of their way to chat to me were Civo, Webcke, Thorn, TC, Tallis, Gillmeister, Gee & (surprisingly) Ennis. Also, I've met & had a good chat with Nathan Brown, Paul Macgregor, Peter Sterling & Terry Lamb. Cam Smith is a legend & a very funny family man.

Players I'm less than impressed with; S.Berrigan, Parker, Boyd, Lacey, Tuquiri, Dell, Andrew Johns, Matt Geyer, Julian O'neill, & Eastwood. Also Henjak, but he did seem to not speak to anyone the afternoon I met him.

On Wally, I've met him 3 times & honestly once he was a douche, once he returned my hello & once he spoke to me about the Broncos for a good couple of minutes. I really think, with almost all the players, it really is the way, place & time you meet them. In fairness to Dell, Boyd & Berrigan, I've met them in pub/club environments & they were drunk or trying to hit on girls.

Easily the 2 biggest douches I've met are Berrigan & Eastwood. The 2 top blokes are Cam Smith (I'm a biased Logan Brother) & Petero. Petero is the kind of bloke you want to invite around for a bbq!

footballer?

dont really have a worst, so I just do 3 best:

Frank Farina: Brilliant footballer, knew how to score.

Kasey Wehrman: Saw him play when he was 18, Before his ankle injury, he was one of the quickest players I've ever seen and was so skillful. after his ankle injury he slowed down considerably and always played with a bit of a limp from there on. He still made it to play in Europe and be a part time Socceroo, but had he not had that ankle injury, he would have been a star.

Clint Bolton: Great goalkeeper. Had a lot more potential in the late 90s that he didnt really live up to, but he was great.

They're not footballers. They're soccer players.
Stop posting off topic.

My sister in law was being harrassed in a club back in the day and she said Wendell Sailor stepped up and helped them out, even though he was with some really hot chicks already so he wasn't trying to pick them up...said he was really nice....

My mate who lives in Bali and sees a lot of the footy players at their worst says that Braith Anasta is a really top guy. He was going around making sure everyone in the club wasn't being annoyed by his footy mates (Roosters when they got the spoon I think) and kept asking my mate to let him know if anyone was being stupid etc. Sat down and had a big yarn etc etc etc. Surprised me to hear this because I always think of Braith as a king douche.

I have heard that Wally had a lot of issues because of his epilepsy and was just shy and nervous? But that since his operation his confidence has really exploded and he's actually quite a nice guy now.

I know my personality if I was a footy star I'd find it tough to be nice to strangers on a regular basis. Props to all these guys for recognising that it's an important part of their roles as club ambassadors.

Best player I met was Ryan Girdler. I meet him at a legends of league exhibition match in Toowoomba back a few year ago. He has a very nice bloke and was very easy to talk too. I'm yet to meet a rude or annoying player though most i've spoken too were very easy to chat to.

A mate and I were enjoying a late afternoon of golf at Nudgee G.C. quite a few years ago when a young fella in a cart rushed by us asking if he could play through as he was running late.

Turned out it was Ben Walker, Mate and I caught up and asked if we could play the last few holes with him anyway and he said "sure ... why not"

Really nice guy. I told him straight up i was a massive Broncos fan and would probably pester him about things 'Bronco'

He was fine and always had a laugh when i asked him a stupid question :haha:

I also met Brad Thorn at my little sisters 21st party.

He went to school with her at Aspley High .... so when i saw him i just wondered over and talked to him for a while.

He was cool about it and answered a lot of drunken/stupid questions i was asking.

Todd carney maggot asking for a lift home, needless to say he didn't get one.

Terry Campese is the same off field as he is on field just an arrogant idiot whinger.

Dane Tilse he can't fight for shit but has a good sense of humor

Bronson Harrison had a good chat with whilst walking the beat, nice bloke but I think I was the only one who recognized him.

Best was Steve and Kevin Walters and langer saw them in a pub in cronulla in 07.
Gal and Todd Carney was nice as well

Worst was E.T he is a rude up him self prick.

An old boss of mine told me about meeting one player, who was working as a rep during his footy career and visited the area. My boss asked him to play touch footy in the local social comp and he said yes... the opposing team were pretty disheartened when the local surf shop sponsored team ran out onto the field with Mal Meninga.

I went to a cricket match which featured a team of Indigenous NRL players against an up and coming rep cricket team... for some sort of charity at the SCG in January 2011

Met the following players; Wendell Sailor, Scott Prince, Jamal Idris, Greg Bird, Greg Inglis, Preston Campbell, Ben Barba, Jharal Yow Yeh, Ryan James, Nathan Merritt, Shannon Walker, Jono Wright, Michael Lett, George Rose.

The best one would of been George Rose. Real light-hearted man. Did help that my grandmother knows some of his relatives so we had a bit of a talk about the town he grew up in (the same town as my grandmother). Funny man too. He wasn't actually playing in the game and me and a mate asked him why... in his hand had an empty plate which was full of sandwiches only 20 minutes before and said "been too busy eating fellas". Top bloke.

Greg Bird was also good too, which sort of is against his reputation. Had a solid talk to him.

Wendell was tops as well, he was getting photos with people, at the same time he was on the phone to his wife.

Preston Campbell ... nuff said. Top bloke he is. Michael Searle was with him too and we spent a solid 10 minutes talking to him. We asked him a few questions regarding player signings and stuff.

Ben Barba, Jharal were surprisingly a bit reserved. As was GI

The worst of all was Nathan Merritt by a mile. Asked him what did he think of Sandow and he just responds back with "he's a halfback". Thanks scoop.

I met Greg Bird at a coffee shop at Burleigh Heads in early December last year. He was a good bloke and was easy to talk too.
