Mate, Ive still got him starting next week. Who exactly would he be back up to heading into next year, in your eyes? He's going to have to want to hang around as a back up half ... Which he's unlikely to want. If an NRL club comes calling offering a starting half position, he'll be gone IMO
Pezet has clearly been signed as our halfback for next year. He'll be given first opportunity unless injured or suspended.
And a very good chance Reynolds is back this week against the Tigers which means he'll be guaranteed to start (as he should) with Duffy probably relegated to the bench.
I'd love Duffy to stay and fight with Pezet for the starting 7. I just don't see it happening if he's offered a starting role at another club.
Hell, I can think of several clubs that would be stupid not to throw decent money at him to lead their teams
Which teams?
Dragons
That's about all I can think of. You could probably make an argument for Titans maybe, Raiders maybe and perhaps Rabbits. He doesn't walk into any of them though and is probably in the same position as with us and fighting with another dude who has preference.
Dragons for sure
But I'd also go Knights and Bears he would be better than what they've got.
Possibly Eels since they lose Pezet (not sure what their depth is like)
Titans possibly. Only Campbell has secured his spot in the halves.
Tigers would be another option, although Douelhi has done well this year, so he would have serious competition their. Madden is a quality player, but only as a running 6, not game managing 7.
As I said I'd love to keep him, but is he prepared to start the year as a backup, given he is ready to be a starting player.
P.s. the above doesn't take into account possible starting spots in England (I don't watch enough of that comp to comment).
P.p.s BHQ love him this week, we'll see what happens after his next match![]()
It depends if you think he can play 6 or not... I wouldnt be sold on him as a 6, but there are few genuine 7's and he could put his hand up.Which teams?

I agree, small nrl sample size but hes shown hes above cup standards and If duffy get more opportunities this year and continues to impress how does he not go into next year as favourite for the 7 role. Particularly if pezet continues along his current meh path at para. Regardless of salary. Madge has set precedent last year dropping cobbo and arthas for karp and Shiba. And with good reason to be fair. Getting yourself up for one game is different to doing it week in, week out. I loved what I saw and would love for him to stay as well and duke it out with Pezet because Maguire has shown he isn't afraid to drop a big name if they are underperforming, ala Gibs and Cobbo. If Pezet doesn't hit the ground running, there is a very big carrot in front of Duffy. It might be enough for him to sign on for another year.

Dargs obviously... titans still need a 7 as well.
You could make an argument for storm... maybe not next year, but take him early to develop ie just work to whatever was the Pezet plan... Munster is getting older and looking more susceptible. Hughes could easily be a 6.
Bunnies desperately need a 7... Humphries aint it and neither is Ward. Cody getting older as well
Dogs need a 7, but they'll probably commit to the young guy coming through.
Could be an argument for dolphins with Kodi getting older... I think they'll want to keep Katoa at 7, but could move him to 6 with Duffy at 7 and then Katoa has full freedom to run the attack whilst Duffy does the kicking, etc... they also need a kicker with Isaako moving on.
Knights need a 7... theyve got Sandon at the moment so it could end up being how that plays out... also how they fit Sharpe, Ponga and Brown into the spine.
Wahs and tigers are probably alright, but it could fall in a heap at any notice.
Are wahs banking on Tanah for long term after a month of footy? If not then do they want to go back to Metcalf at 7 or make him a 6 and find a new 7.
Can Tigers rely on Doueihi with his injury history and then Madden as the backup. Luai a potential flight risk with all his player options.
I think for both of them will persist with what they have for 2027 at least which doesnt work for Duffy's timeline.
I did like that Duffy was able to set up points through his playmaking. He wasn't a stock get us to a point on the field and dig into the line for the backline to do all the work.Which is also why I think we're a very strong chance of keeping him for another year. Even without Haas, our side is stacked. Reynolds is gone, Bunt would have one more year max but at his age, the cliff can come quickly and he is very versatile anyway.
Pezet will be given first shot as long as he trains well but he is still very much earning his established first grade status and has not set the world on fire thus far, albeit at 6 and not 7. Mam as well is clearly struggling but he does have a lot of runs on the board to be given a lot of rope.
Even so, Duffy is a strong chance of earning a shot at regular first grade with a legit contender if he stays with us. That has to be attractive as a proposition.

That is potentially enough to consider him as a 6 or 7.
You do need at least one running threat in the halves ... ideally both... so that's probably still one thing to check with him.
But it was a good first showing for him.
We will need halves depth next year as I think it's only Pezet and Ezra on the books as of next year (excluding young guys on dev deals, etc.)
We think Bhunt will go around again, but beyond that we're probably extending Billy for maybe just one more year.
I'd assume Rogers doesnt get extended... and then who else is there.
You dont want one injury in the halves to equal losses, because there's only so many losses you can take before top 4 gets out of reach... so if you know you have a capable guy in Duffy sitting there then you should be looking to keep him.
He's definitely tall, but looks a bit skinny so not sure how his defence would hold up.I wonder if Duffy can play as a utility, if he can, he'd be a regular in the 19 and I like that he has some size about him too.

Billy Walters is my ongoing pick as a possible Smoothy 2.0.
