Error PageBRONCOS co-owner Phil Murphy says Brisbane players must show more respect for their jersey after he witnessed members of the team laughing after they lost to Penrith.
Murphy, who owns almost 20 per cent of the Broncos, said he was disappointed to see players joking with their *Penrith rivals on-field following their one-point loss to the Panthers.
Murphy refused to single out any player but said he was gutted that after three losses in a row, including giving up two leads, players could still smile at full time.
Broncos part owner Phil Murphy says players need to show more respect for the jersey.
Murphy, who has laid out more than $4 million for a stake in the club, said the players should be under pressure, not coach Anthony Griffin.
The free agency of Wayne Bennett means Griffin needs a winning streak to fend off *public pressure for his job.
That streak must start *on Saturday against the in-form New Zealand Warriors at *Suncorp Stadium.
Murphy said he was tired of Broncos teams giving up leads but believes they can be a premiership contender if they respect their jersey’s history.
“I love this club and I just don’t believe a loss like that is something to laugh about,” Murphy said.
“Corey Parker was *distraught at full time as was Josh McGuire and most of the players, but I was just disappointed to see a few laughing as if the loss wasn’t a big deal.
“They need to show more pride. That jersey means so much to so many people and they need to respect that.
“That (players laughing) is not Anthony Griffin’s fault. Anthony is a great coach.”
It is understood that three Brisbane players were laughing with the opposition *immediately after their loss to Penrith, but they were joking with former team mates.
