Wasn't sure where to put this article so I made a new thread. Lots of talking points from the article and it pretty much tells us where it all went wrong.

It would be painfully disappointing for Brisbane to miss out on playing in the 2013 NRL finals in the year the proud club celebrates its 25th year anniversary.
But after losing 32-0 to defending premiers Melbourne at the weekend -- the first Brisbane side in history to be held to zero points twice in one season -- the critics are leaping out of trees to declare their season over and predictably calling for coach Anthony Griffin’s head.

Failed to mention the Cullen-Bellamy stuff up, if he was our coach the last 4 years would've been smoother sailing.

Jeez that gala ball is going to be awkward, the old boys would certainly be feeling conflicted about what is going on.

Yep the Gala ball will be very awkward especially with some of them coming out and bagging the club or coach for how we are going. I really hope we win so it is a bit of a better night for the players but I feel like us losing more might get some change happening.

Just goes to show how much Karmichael Hunt leaving fucked us. He was the guy backed to lead and to fill the hole left by Lockyer. The club really should have acted once Hunt left but I guess they tried with Inglis but he fell into their lap but then was pinched.

While I agree totally with the recruitment issue, that article finished with this:

"The pressure won’t worry Griffin. I’d be willing to bet he, skipper Sam Thaiday and Bribane’s players believe their efforts against both the Warriors, losing on a Prince intercept and again against the Storm, when they had enough scoring opportunities to be in the contest but didn’t execute the final play against the best last line defence in the competition, is good enough to believe they can still make the finals.

Brisbane may be missing a few things at the moment -- but definitley not heart or fight."

I posted elsewhere that for me, we have shown enough in bits and pieces, and bits and pieces, that we have a lot of tries in us, and when on, the defence is also excellent. It's just that things haven't clicked, or come together. Combinations haven't executed, or they just haven't happened except for a game here and a game there.

So I can close my eyes and hope, in vain or not, that things might click starting this week end and some good wins are on the cards.

But the recruitment of a marquee player or 3 is still a huge issue which needs to be resolved.

as an on field talker, sure, but as a player? not a chance in hell.

we needed to plan for a top tier half to partner lockyer in his last year. instead we opted to just stick with wallace plus whichever numpty was coming through the lower levels. thats what killed us.

I think our forward pack is pretty decent. Its just the backs who lack speed and creativity

Hell yeah, speed is my biggest nit pick. If we could just find a half decent speedster to replace Maranta we might be able to score a try greater than 20meters in movement.

Speed won't always give us tries, we need the wingers to also be getting the ball with room to move. It seems so often our wingers are pushed so far to the sideline by the time they got the ball they need to either tippy toe along the sideline or try and come back in.

How many teams have actually nailed a succession plan?? It's a tough gig. Broncos got it wrong and that happens. The alarming thing for me is the lack of urgency to fix it.

yeah, i can cop that we got it wrong. its hard to say from the outside whats being done to fix it but if we dont have something in the works for 2014 then there is serious problems

the most pressing problem is our halves, but where do we find a new one? can anyone suggest any serious solutions before 2014? i dont think we've missed out on anyone worth while in the halves in the last 12 months, either.

Agree, but it is those few and far between times that we get the intercept, or diffuse the oppositions attacking kick with no one in front of us, i'd love someone in the team that when they get the ball with no one in front of them it is generally try time. Also help to be able to run opposition players down.

Speed is a weapon that plays on the mind of the opposition. Remember that Origin when Chris Walker came on as a replacement and Nathan Brown told every NSW player on the field numerous times that "Walkers on". I'd love another Chris Walker type sitting on one wing with Hoffman on the other.

Well yeah, Cronk and Thursto aren't significant halves.

Imo halves aren't the most pressing concern but rather the third. First is we depeeately need an on field general, a real captain (this can be a half but I'd love smith) second is a fullback we virtually have none next season. Third is a marquee half but I believe if we had a real captain calling the shots our halves would improve maasively

IMO the most ridiculous thing is that the club chose Norman as the guy to succeed Lockyer and after 1 season they signed an over the hill Prince. IMO Norman showed some signs last year that he could be a very good player. Regardless of if you are a fan of Norman or not it is just ridiculous that we signed Prince.

You can't buy in a captain that the playing group respects.

It has to come from within.

Glenn, Thaiday, Parker, while all respected, aren't playmaking halves.

None of the spine of the team are leadership material.

In fairness to the club I think they signed prince because it was plainly obvious that Norman wasn't ready to be the 6 yet. It seems pretty obvious that they though give him a year or two at fullback to increase his vision and awareness. I don't think that they banked on him cracking the sads and leaving and to be completely honest that sums up corey Norman. Instead of digging in and trying to be better, he packs his shit and runs... Can't believe the little brat was ever compared to Lockyer, what and insult

That is their own fault for him not being ready for the 6. They burnt him and replaced him with an old man so he said **** you I am leaving. He isn't the first and won't be the last to do so. I don't like Norman and I am glad he is leaving.
