NEWS Broncos must rely on their QLD roots

I got mocked for raising this exact point last week, but it's true. The Broncos have lost their way in promoting local talent, and that will translate to local fans feeling like this team less represents them.

It's not about winning. It's about tribe.

Melbourne can win. But they have no tribe.

I disagree. Sport is more interesting when your team feels like their your tribe. When Melbourne wins, no one in Victoria cares.

Well that's patently untrue. We're the current belt holders. We knocked out the champ.

Wot? You're really rambling here mate.

I wouldn’t be crowing about that.

Try reading the page the right way up.

Alright.

It's not about winning. It's about tribe.

Not sure what this is supposed to mean? Do you not care about winning? Why did you create a thread about the wooden spoon then? Makes no sense.

Is it even possible (or reasonable) to have an entire 30 man squad of Queenslander's? What would this even prove in doing so?

Firstly, it's they're, not their.

Secondly, have you ever watched Melbourne play at home? They have lots of supporters who care when they win. Guess which state they live in?

Who are the current belt holders?

This is the attitude that NSW had when we were smashing their asses all up and down 8 years. It's a loser's attitude and I hope Qld don't start using it as an excuse or argument. It's an admission of defeat that belongs in NSW.

Do us a favour: pop down to Red Hill and gives Seibs this spray.

It’s been suggested that if Pangai, from Newcastle via the Raiders, joins a Sydney club in 2020 and spurns a three-year Brisbane deal that it’s a “disaster’’ for the Broncos. If he does re-sign with Brisbane, it’s hard to see how they can keep all their younger forwards over the same time period.

Reading between the lines here....did we offer a 3 year deal & TPJ is looking to join a Sydney club? I know for the fact that he may be looking at other clubs but not sure if we offered him a 3 year deal to him.

Perhaps, is it all CM's another BS story? Today it's a 3 year deal and is tomorrow's article we offering in excess of 800K a year?

I wonder how low can an individual (P.Badel) would go just to save his stupid low life job? Corey wanting overs of 750K & TPJ wanting out etc, etc......... He survived last year solely due to animosity between WB & Broncos hierarchy but this year A.S is whipping this dog left & right. Hence writing all these nonsense. Hope this low life junk deserts media for good.

I don't know about you guys but I don't look up a player on our roster to see if their a Queenslander. I look up a player to see if they have highlights and if they have potential. If they have signed at the club and make me proud every week then I will support them at every step.

If Haas turns out to be the next best prop since Petro I will love him forever not because he had the blue jersey on 3 days out of a year but because he put the maroon and gold on every damn week.

Truth. Some of our greatest sides have had NSW players, how in the hell does that change someone's level of support for the Broncos? It's garbage to say that it would.

Is anyone seriously unhappy that Lodge puts on our jersey each week? He is the perfect example of a non-Queenslander with a very questionable history who has thrived in our system and at our club.

I’m so god damn desperate to win the comp that I wouldn’t care if the whole team was nsw if they came through with the goods!!!!

in recent years when they got wrapped up in recruiting and retaining players who happened to be from New Zealand or NSW.

There's a fair arguemnt to make that this could explain our premiership drought......

No one is arguing there should be NO non-QLD players. If that's what you're getting from this thread, maybe you need to get someone to help you read it.

I'm arguing that who cares where the players come from as long as they're good, what do you think I'm saying?

Honestly, I have no idea. You've entirely missed the point of the thread.

Every team has players from outside its catchment region. No one is complaining about that.

But, most agree that when a team starts to look less like a team from a local region, it's less likely to gel with that regional fanbase. It's the concept of a tribe. It's one of the main ingredients that makes sporting rivalries appear to mean something.

It's fun.

And it's hardly profound.

There isn't anyone who can't understand that players like Glenn Lazarus brought value to the side. Surely, you don't need more explanation.

I'll counter you with Melbourne, they have very few Victorian's (if any?), yet they're 4th on the season membership tally. So their "tribe" consists of very few locals yet they have a fantastic supporter base that the city rallies around. Doesn't that discredit the theory that you need locals to have a supporter base that the people gel with?

I don't think I need to explain this any further. It's too basic.
