Broncos relishing attack-minded approach

As much as I'm loathed to think too much about that game.......but surely WB should've said something to Alfie and get a out message to the boys. "Keep playing footy......you can't wind down the clock just yet"

I feel like the message that went out was the complete opposite. I guess we will never know if he made the bad call or if Hodgo did.

You been watching something else, we have the best attack in the NRL. If we get game management and defence right. We could go all the way.

Keen insight there.

We have the best attack in the NRL...when we're consistent. We can't keep leaving it to the second half of games to put it all together.

I think you been watching something else if you don't think there is quite significant room to improve our attack.

The fact that our attack has room for improvement, yet is still the best in the league, is very encouraging.

Our defense definitely needs work though. Last time I checked we were the 2nd worst defence out of the top 8.

I totally agree, there's always room to improve.

Here's the thing... as much as we want to blame the cautious approach to closing out the GF, remember the only reason the Cows got down our end was because of a stupid Hunt penalty, and... Milford having the ball stripped while trying to keep up the creative, attacking play. Had Milford played more conservative, the Cows may well not have had the chance that they did.

Just saying.

I really need people to stop un-repressing my memory of the last 2 minutes of that game, LET IT DIE, PLEASE.

Milford didn't get stripped, Hunt did.

They both got stripped.

I still don't buy into this 'conservative' attack lost Brisbane the game. I can understand how that impression exists because a few kicks went into touch, but a lot of those weren't by designs, rather bounces that didn't go the Broncos way. There was one bomb that completely bamboozled Feldt, it could have gone anywhere and it just happened to bounce right over the sideline.

The problem with the Broncos in that second half is that they couldn't get out of their own end. They had two opportunities in the second half, the first Boyd threw a pass to Oates' feet and he of course knocked on. The other Hunt put in a rubbish kick and gave the Cowboys a seven tackle set. They simply didn't get any field position to launch an attack and after the Cowboys gave away one of their cynical penalties on the line when the Broncos were all over them early in the second half, they couldn't buy another one. Second effort elbow from Coote? All good. Blatant two on one strip by Tamou? Cowboys ball. Hey, the referees were fine and even if they weren't bitching about them isn't going to change the result but those calls certainly impaired the Broncos ability to throw the ball around.

EDIT: Here's the timestamp I wrote up...

44th Minute - Ben Hunt, 45m inside his own line, finds Lachlan Coote on his chest, Cows open set 22m outside their own line.
46th Minute - Andrew McCullough, 49m out from his own line, finds the in-goal and manages to keep the ball in play, Cows ball 11m outside their own line.
48th Minute - Anthony Milford, 20m out from the Cowboys line, toes the ball through for Oates after Jack Reed is taken out in backplay. Set finishes with a Broncos knock on after Gillett fails to take Hunt's pass (thanks to the attention of JT...whether it was premature is up for debate)
50th Minute - Ben Hunt, 48m out from the Cowboys line, picks up Feldt on the full, Cowboys ball 25m out from their own line.
52 Minute - Ben Hunt, 35m out from his own line, attempts a 40/20, kick rolls over the sideline 25m out (this was the set where Coote caught Boyd with a fore-arm)
54 Minute - Ben Hunt, 45m out from his own line, mid-field bomb, bounces over the sideline 25m out from the Cowboys line
57 Minute - Ben Hunt, 18m out from the Cowboys line, places a cross-kick that is marked in-goal by JT
62 Minute - Ben Hunt, 35m out from the Cowboys line, places a bomb up for Feldt, Cowboys open set on their 12m line.
64 Minute* - Ben Hunt, 40m out from the Cowboys line, places a grubber kick to find touch 10m out from the Cowboys line.
68 Minute - Ben Hunt, 40m out from the Cowboys line, kicks it low at Kyle Feldt, earns a repeat set
71 Minute - Ben Hunt, 40m out from the Cowboys line, kicks it into touch 20m out from the Cowboys line
73 Minute - Anthony Milford, 18m out from the Cowboys line, chips for the goal-line but picks JT out on the full, Cows ball 13m out from their own line.
75 Minute - Ben Hunt, 40m out from the Cowboys line, finds touch 15m out from the Cowboys line
77 Minute - Andrew McCullough, 40m out from the Cowboys line, finds touch 15m out from the Cowboys line

The 64th minute kick was a rushed kick after Nikorima balked Hunt from dummy half.

Is that a stats thing?

Because it sure as shit doesn't look like it half the time.......half the time it looks like we have NFI how to get the ball across the line.

If you expecting to score of every attacking play, you're not realistic

If you expecting to score of every attacking play, .......

Of course not.....if you're watching us and think we've got the best attack in the league then you're not being realistic.

it may look that way ... but we have score 71 tries this year which puts us equal 3 (with Titans) for tries scored in 2017 so far, behind only the Sea Eagles (76) and Storm (74)

so we must be doing something right.

we are also currently sitting equal first with the panthers for Goals kicked on 66 ... damn it is good to have a reliable kicker

Our attack is good, but in terms of points per game it's basically unchanged from last year when our attack was 6th in the NRL. Statistically speaking, our attack has only improved in the relative sense.

4th worst.

I

When did Milf get stripped? I remember he had a good line break and made a good 20m and passed the 50, than passed it to hunt who got tackled one on one, put his hands in the air to plead for a penalty and then got stripped.

Milf made the break, Feldt knocked it out of his hands (forward), Hunt picked it up the loose ball and then Feldt knocked it out of his hands too.
