Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

Yea, dude is a million dollar player, but I wouldn't go too much higher than that.

Problem is, that while the Sydney clubs will need to pay a premium to get him to move, we have a cashed up Dolphins and idiotic Titans who will likely be interested too.
Titans have Tino on a 10 year deal and Fifi on over a mil. SURELY they’re not dumb enough to have 3 forwards soaking up close to 4 mil of their cap? They also have some gun spine players (JC and Kini) that they need to keep; brimmo is already on a bit too.

Phins are a concern, especially if they don’t get dce and flegler medically retires. But will Haas want to go to a team that has a 0% chance of winning the comp and a 99% chance of finishing bottom 4?

Get your hands off our Payne....um or is it get your eyes off our Haas!! I don't know but you get the gist. That last saga was Payneful but he Haas come a long way since then. I really can't envision him looking to exit Brisbane anytime soon. He's on a cracking salary as it is. Can other clubs really afford to go substantially higher? Also it is bloody Manly in all the articles, they have to say they are interested but Payne is not going to play under Siebold NO CHANCE. Either way he's ours for now.

P.S. for a Monday that's about as good of a post as you'll get from me.

This Payne deal will be interesting. The current success of the squad is not great timing… best to buy stocks on the dip :)

We have two halves who are not going to be there in 2027 as they are closer to 40 years of age than 30, who is on the radar and what’s the plan?

Melbourne aren’t in the discussion to sign Payne Haas? How about Penrith? Wonder why that is? Could be they aren’t dumb enough to sign their tanks on marquee dollars at the expense of top notch spine players.

One out of the box option would be to offer Haas a bumper contract for just 1-2 years, then review. Long term deals on top dollar for players like Haas and JT are just bad business.

I love Billy, but there were are couple of moments in that game where I saw him walking in defence. He looked a bit gassed, which is weird for a trial. I guess he played 80, but still - he didn't do that much to be so tired. I dont think he can handle the edges too much in defence, which would suck if we needed him to cover an injury to the half's.

Maybe age is catching up to him faster than some others.
I remember him missing a tackle that lead straight to a try in one of the trials. Doesn’t look good for Kevvie TBH unless this whole Paix resurgence can just be chalked up to coaching.

Storm have spent big on middles in the past... NAS is on a big deal, JBrom was on a big deal.

Uto isn't on much, but that might change... to me it looks like Bellamy is turning him into Kamikamica 2.0... and if so he won't want to break the bank for him

He's been doing well so far. I think his best position is at 14, doing 20-30min stints.

I actually think Utoikamanu would be on a fair bit. He had a number of clubs chasing him and was an origin prop not that long ago. Of course, when it comes to the Storm, how much of that is on the cap is another question.

I think we probably are ok salary cap wise; however the inclusion of Bhunt may have been a spanner in the works IF Reynolds chooses to go around again.

Reynolds reduced his deal to like $600k or something and Bhunt is here on like $550k.

So I don't think it will be hard to accommodate both of them; however we are more than likely to be copping the full brunt of Walsh's upgrade as of next year (if not this year) and Ezra’s goes up year on year... which is where Reynolds money was going.

So to suddenly chuck $600k or so back into the cap for Reynolds potentially costs us someone we would've liked to keep.

I'd imagine we're looking at playing with **** all depth for the near future, so retain Gos, Shiba, etc. on near minimum deals for at least next year.

The young guys like Willison, BTK, Mozer, etc. will get bumps, but hopefully nothing too insane given they aren't cemented starters yet... but broncos do get FOMO and can be sucked into paying on potential.

Who to lose in order to keep Reynolds is the question.

I'd still hope that we can find a new home for Madden... just not needed anymore with a logjam at halves and Billy and Bhunt covering both halves and hooker.

You'd probably want to move Billy on... only because we have such a logjam in the halves and hooker. He still provides value next year, but broncos are likely hoping that Black moves up into a next man up for the halves behind Reynolds, Bhunt and Ezra... noting we also have Rogers as well.

So if nothing changes and we retain Reynolds the halves are something like Reynolds, Ezra, Bhunt, Madden, Black, Billy and Rogers... that is just way more than what's needed and you'd imagine Rogers is the only one on minimum wage... so there is cap space there if guys can be moved on.

And then we have hooker... Smoothy is leaving and Paix is off contract but I'm assuming Bukowski comes into the top 30, so we have Bhunt, Mozer, Paix, Billy and Bukowski.

That's probably 1 too many, and I'm assuming Madge may want Paix moreso than Billy just on youth alone. Because after Bhunt retires you can move forward with Mozer, Paix and Bukowski... for the next 3-5yrs.

Beyond the halves and hookers, other casualties might be Jensen (assuming Taupau retires and BTK moves up... Semu moving up 1 as well)... but I'd prefer to keep Jensen.

I'm assuming Baker is already in the sun, so we're getting back whatever cap he was taking up. Hunt may or may not be retained, but im assuming he's on minimum wage... he could look to move for opportunity though.

Kobe you'd imagine is on the retain list, but falls into the above rotation... old mate really needs to learn how to play edge backtow and he's a 5yr re-signing for this squad.

And then there's Cobbo... I don't really want to lose Cobbo... but if you can't move on Madden and/or Billy, and want to retain Jensen, Kobe and Paix, then he might be the one at risk to keep Reynolds for another year.

Hetherington has been alright but if we were to lose someone he would be the top of my list. Billy Walters and Jensen make up my top 3 to move on. Reynolds will likely to stay as he's our captain and only ever thought about the club.

So you're wanting to keep Madden over guys who are in the starting 17 or next man up?

Madden who will be sitting behind Reynolds, Bhunt and Ezra at minimum, but may also be behind Black as well... a 5th choice half over starting 17 guys.

Billy can do that job next year whilst also covering hooker and may be on similar money

If Reynolds wants to go around again, I’d do it and even if it cost say Kobe and maybe Jensen assuming you can’t move Madden’s contract.

It is never ideal to lose anyone who is in the starting 17 but if losing two allows us to retain say Cobbo and Reynolds, it’s worth it. You can then shop around for a cheap depth middle at minimum wage or even go with a Powell who is already sort of at the club and has experience.

I’m also assuming Taupau retires or moves on otherwise you can try and squeeze another year out of him. The middle depth becomes super skinny but it is what it is.

A forward pack of:
8. Willison
10. Haas
13. Carrigan

15. Te Kura
16. Taupau/Hunt/Semu/Powell

Is still pretty impressive…unless there are injuries.

I never thought about Madden lose him and keep Rodgers if anyone. If helps keep Cobbo and Reynolds we need to cut some of our higher paid players.

I'd agree that keeping Reynolds is probably a priority even if it is only for an extra year.

Bhunt is a great player, but even from his role at 6, you can see the difference in kicking games between the two.

I think if we lost Reynolds and Bhunt moved into 7 that our premiership credentials then relies on Walsh and Ezra stepping up... because it is just too much of a gulf in class between Reynolds and Bhunt to say that Benny can move straight into that same role.

So that to me says that Reynolds has to be a priority, even if it does cost us some players.

Jensen, Kobe, Cobbo, etc. aren't moving the needle in the same way that Reynolds does... so we need to keep it going until it is clear that Walsh and co are able to take the reins.
