Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

If Reynolds is actually staying for one more year, it simply makes no sense at all to even entertain it.

Even if you ignore the fact the little yapping headgear wearing dog has voiced hating the Broncos, we have Hunt on the books next season and if everyone is fit out of he, Ezra and Reynolds, Hunt plays 9/14 hopefully in tandem with Mozer.

There's no room or money to go anywhere near it.

If DCE goes to the Roosters they will have Savala, Smith and Walker.
We shoukd def have a crack at Walker but $$$ could be a problem.
Savala would be my next pick but Smith is showing promise as well..
They won't all stay.
Time to move Arey on .
Talk about Sandon being the one to move on and Parra being interested

will be really interesting to see what happens with Toby Rodwell too.. he looks like he might be the pick of the lot

Rumour is that Sandon Smith will head to the Cowboys if DCE goes to the Chooks

Heard this one yesterday and the way it was pitched didn’t seem to make much sense .. ie, Smith goes to the Cowboys to either play off the bench or to move into the hooker role

the article i posted said he'd form a halves combination with Dearden ... Purdue would return to centre

I would say Sandon Smith will end up at the Eels.

Still stays in Sydney and he will walk right into that 5/8 position and will learn off one of the best halfbacks in the game.

I reckon Eels will be chasing him pretty hard after getting screwed over by Moses with the Galvin situation.

Too bad he'll have to move out of his mate's house in Vaucluse... I'm sure there are some great places in Parra... probably not as many good mates though

Are we actually chasing anyone or working to re-sign anyone? Don't we have like half a squad's worth of vacancies next year?

The club may well already have made some signings, would be nice to hear who some of them are. The club does seem to make announcements late in the year these days though.

Yeah the most broncos thing to do is sign Staggs for a million dollars a year just to steal the limelight.

Who knows, but one thing that could be of interest in terms of the comings and goings are the development players... broncos seem to bring the young guys through on development deals and then they come into the top 30 the following year or year after.

Development players at the moment according to NRL.com (pretty shit source, but what else can we use)... Antonio Verhoeven isn't on the list, but I think he's signed for a couple years, so maybe he'll come onto the dev deal list next year... same with Innes and those other young guys that have been playing Meninga this year.

Bailey Trew
Cameron Bukowski
Hayze Perham
Jett Bryce
VJ Semu

So 5 guys on the dev deal list... I think this is the second year on this list for Bukowski and Semu, and possibly Trew?

So I'd expect those guys to come straight into the Top 30 and you'd imagine they're coming in on a reasonable contract... so if we lose someone like Baker and his higher than minimum contract is gone, he is effectively replaced by someone like Semu on a much lower deal and no need to go to market.

Bukowski comes in for Smoothy or Paix, but either way one of those salaries can be replaced with a different position, because next year we will have Mozer, Bhunt and Billy, along with Bukowski.

Trew if he is in his second year of a dev deal could come in for a Leota, Hoeter, etc. but I think we need more outside back depth and it seems like Ganderson is coming.

I believe I read somewhere that a player that has been on the dev list for 2yr gets a 10% salary cap saving for their first top 30 deal... so if all these guys have been on dev deal for 2yr then they're all coming into the top 30 on a slight discount and no need to replace outgoings.

Jett Bryce is getting some game time beyond Meninga, but I daresay we'd be looking to keep him on a dev deal next year, because of the above salary cap savings, but you can also use your dev players whenever you want, instead of the round 11 clause.

Perham I'd keep around on a dev deal again.. he's done his ACL so give him another go next year instead of turfing him... it's also hard to find those players that can fit as a hybrid 6/1, and he can also cover the outside backs, so he brings a lot of versatility.

I kind of feel our team doesn't make too many embarrassing calls on contracts. Fletcher baker maybe but hes not exactly on big money.

Josh Shewster at Manly for 850k per season was a howler that I can remember. Same with Dylan Brown to Newcastle for $14 mil over 10 years is another..

I think the Baker one was reported recently as something like $300-$400k... same with someone like Paix.

So they aren't huge deals, but my point was more that those contracts get replaced by guys coming through the development deal pathway, Semu & Bukowski in this instance, which means we will get savings from those guys leaving... even though they aren't superstars on big contracts.

For this approach to be sustainable the guys coming through on Dev Deals need to be able to contribute with NRL games... that hasn't been the case with someone like Leota... even BTK has only played a handful of games at this point, so we're not exactly getting a whole lot of use out of that top 30 contract, but I would expect that to change pretty soon.

Tyson Walker too. Rodwell and Walker just got them home in the SG Ball Grand Final against Eels.

Semu's deal is an NRL deal for 26 and 27.
