Think I might have been using a fair dose of hyperbole 12 months ago but let’s see if he can fix it.

Watching his Qcup highlights he has a very good kicking game , backs up well and slick passing, but rarely runs the ball . No line breaks , no off loads .

A #7 who is no threat himself is not gonna be a success .

I don't know who made those highlights but it's not his best 2024 work. He was half back of the year, led the comp for try assists with 33 in 22 games, most line break assists and second most line engaged. His running game was excellent last year and in Colts in 22.

His work with Chester was outstanding.

I wonder if the club have any plans of resting Reyno every now and then next season and playing Duffy.

Those are Impressive stats no doubt . But don`t address what I saw .

How many line breaks and tackle busts ? That is the difference between Adam Reynolds and Jerome Hughes . One is a threat the other isn`t .

I would love for us to sign Chester. Yes he's an injury magnet but when he's fit, you'd have an absolute gun at bargain price.

Good call. Let Duffy and Black duke it out. I guess it all depends on how well Hunt backs up this year. Obviously we need to fit Mozer into the 9 rotation next year and probably want to get Bukowski in there at some point too.

This is exactly what I see the problem with Reyno being as well. I see Ben Hunt being a better 7 because he can engage the line and be a line break threat, where as Reyno doesn't. Reyno needs to have an A+ kicking game to compensate for that, and this season has not been that.

This is also the problem I see with Jordon Riki. Not a line break threat compared to Piks.

Best halfback in the game who is widely considered as one of the best halfbacks of all time barely makes any linebreaks.

It's not an important stat for halfbacks. They're there to get the team around on the field and manage the game.

If their game management and kicking game is good and they can set up tries, linebreaks matter very little.

Anyone know where Duffy will play in QCup? Assuming he'll go to WM with Madden back to Tiges
Yeah you'd think that's the plan.

Souths seems to be the one we focus most of our next ups at...however they are a dumpster fire.

I think Coby was at Burleigh or one of the GC teams during Meninga though??... so he could go there just to be at a better team and Duffy into Souths.

But Wynnum makes sense

Not to mention we’ve got a 1 and 6 who have running and line breaks as their weapons. We need a guy with a big boot who can organise.

I don't see line breaks and tackle breaks as that important for a 7, if your half is engaging defenders and pulling them out of the line with his running then I am happy.

He forced line drop outs, he scored tries he had off-loads so he's on your screen with the ball.

If you take Duffy as a "7 of the year" benchmark and see where Black is currently at you see a big difference.

Duffy 24 v Black 25
Games 22/16
Won 18/7
Tries 5/1
Drop outs 10/4
Try assists 33/8
Touched the ball- 907/658
Tackles 407/237
Metres 1485/912

They're three years apart and Black has played 21 Cup games compared to 50 but you can see how much involved and on the ball Duffy is last year and how Black's involvement in games still has a long way to go.

Black is probably where Duffy was in 23 at Townsville, big year for Black next year because then 2024 Duffy had a great Cup year.

You mean like the 23 GF . Not very important hmmmm

Wasn`t he the guy that dummied and went himself to win the GF ?

Half doesn`t need to be breaking the line every run . The threat that they might make a break .Straightens the attack and makes room for the outside men .

When Reyno was at his best he dug in and made space for Cody .
Running across field feigning to drop a runner under isn`t fooling to many defenders the past cpl of seasons .

I honestly don't know if Madge would want to see the young guys go to a strong team to get close-as-possible-to-NRL experience, or send them to a bleak rugby league gulag where everything sucks and they have to fight like hell to get wins

Reynolds seems to have done well for himself, early on he was just a kicking bot. Obviously at his age his kicking is his strength but it's been that way his entire career.
