Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

Pearce-Paul just signed a 3 year deal with the Tigers for 500k a year meanwhile look at the shit we're stuck with.
That price seems insane... the earlier reports were that he was after near $800k

Basically, R&R is sitting on their hands, rather than signing players that Madge wants. While they are starting to sign with other clubs. Just not a good play.

I think one reason why they brought in Dane Campbell, current R&R not doing shit.

I'm loving this potential bloodbath of the players. I hope maguire and co have gone in the and said all bar about 6 or 7 of the players (haas, carrigan, shibasaki, willison, mozer, arthurs, walsh (for now) and black, maybe semu and te kura) are free to leave if they find a deal for equal or more value (so we don't have to pay anything).
**** em. Shiba, and even jetski, have proven that these overpaid flops are providing no more value than run of the mill top 30 players from other teams.

That's not really the point. The point is other clubs are making moves and we aren't.
No point making moves for the sake of making moves. I'm not supporting what our recruitment team are doing, but I'd rather nothing than going after someone like KPP.
Riki never getting us back in the game like KPP did last night.
We have enough blokes in our squad who get contracts from the occasional highlight reel play.

Gonna be hard to offload Riki before 2028, what does he offer and who needs him? Here's this weekends second row across the league:

Knights - Dylan Lucas, Kai Pearce-Paul
Sea Eagles: Olakau'atu, Trbojevic
Melbourne Storm – Shawn Blore, Eliesa Katoa
North Queensland Cowboys – John Bateman, Jeremiah Nanai | Injured: Luki
Dolphins – Kulikefu Finefeuiaki, Oryn Keeley | Injured: Gilbert
Dragons – Luciano Leilua, Toby Couchman | Injured: Su'A
Cronulla Sharks – Briton Nikora, Teig Wilton
New Zealand Warriors – Leka Halasima, Marata Niukore
Brisbane Broncos – Brendan Piakura, Jordan Riki
Gold Coast Titans – Chris Randall, Beau Fermor | Injured: Fifita
Canberra Raiders – Hudson Young, Zac Hosking | Injured: Nicholson
South Sydney Rabbitohs – Euan Aitken, CONEHEAD Duncan | Injured: Murray
Wests Tigers – Samuela Fainu, Tony Sukkar (KPP incoming)
Penrith Panthers – Scott Sorensen, Liam Martin | Injured: Papali'i, Garner
Canterbury Bulldogs – Viliame Kikau, Josh Curran | Injured: Tupouniua, Preston
Parramatta Eels – Kelma Tuilagi, Kitione Kautoga

I suspect we've been waiting for Campbell to start. I suspect though discussions have already been had on who we want, just maybe waiting to announce so he can get some credit.

I also suspect Cobbo will stay but on a greatly reduced deal - this is based on absolutely nothing know and could be absolutely wrong.

In those Karl Morris quotes it mentioned something along the lines of meeting with Madge last week and he has presented his plan.

I daresay Madge has done a review of how the football department has been working and put forward his proposals.

Some players being told they're not getting re-signed... maybe Cobbo 🤔

Dane Campbell brought on to improve pathways and talent identification:
- potentially that's a shot at the juniors that have come through and how far off from first grade they tend to be when they hit the top 30 squad... Leota being a prime example, but that may be an indication on not standing in Piaks way if he finds somewhere else

That's gone through to the leadership group and they're on board (ie. dropping of Cobbo... mentioning of standards, etc. in this week's pressers).

So it seems like maybe a line in the sand moment may have happened 🤔

Now it needs to be seen thats it's not all just talk.

The other aspect is maintaining squad morale... if players are being told they're not wanted, etc. that doesnt usually happen in a team thats winning and looking to play finals.

So there's an aspect of trying to reshape the roster whilst also trying to win games with your "best" players (from a salary standpoint) being told you're not wanted.

A response to that is culling the guys that arent buying in from the 17 and bringing in guys that are (maybe Karapani is one) ... and then hoping those guys brought in can outplay the higher salary guys.

Parra have been doing that to start the year, but they're going through a rebuild so there's no expectations on them to win... Broncos under Madge is different

If it means getting rid of him I'll give him a back seat gobby on the way there ffs
