That's the point. It's a nice blance atm with Walsh, Mam, Reynolds and Walters. Let's not rush players in like we did before.
In two years time we would have Walsh - Year 5 of NRL, and Mam - Year 4 of NRL as the spine leaders. Hardly kids themselves even though they are on the younger side of things. The key for this is, you can have youth in the spine, but you need some hard nosed leaders in the forward pack and outside backs to bring the leadership to the team if you do.

Exactly. I think in terms of age, our team is nicely balanced (would have preffered to keep Capewell a year or two more - and Im not sure if we needed Hunt, but it is what it is). Over the next few years, Walsh/Mam take over from Reyno, Hass/Carrigian/Staggs mature even more, and then you start to bring the next generation in.

We've seen what bringing in a bunch kids who are "the next big thing" all at once has done before. For all Madges faults, he seems to know that as well.

Locking a young potential superstar (and spine player) like Mozer up quietly before anyone else can get in there and tempt him with stupid money or any other under the table shenanigans is really good business and exactly how the good clubs operate.

Glad we got it done, really good to see. Despite all our impatience (myself included) to see Mozer in first grade, the club must have a clear plan that has been communicated to Blake and he is also obviously happy with, which is also great to see.

Mozer is still only 21... so he's not even as old as Harry was when he played his first full year at Tigers on loan.

I don't think it's a bad idea to ease a young guy into first grade... especially when they're going to be defending in the middle against much bigger guys.

I probably would've expected him to already be in first grade this year, mainly because he played the back half of last year, but shoulder injuries are no joke.

Milf had shoulder recos in like 2-3 consecutive seasons, JT's shoulders were a mess through most of his career and Cleary has been having shoulder recos for the last 2 years or so... and gets up lame if he lands the wrong way.

We don't necessarily want to rush a guy into first grade and potentially kick off his career with ongoing shoulder injuries

Mozer is 21. He made his NRL debut two years ago. He was Rookie of the Year in 2024 and hasn't had a game in 2025.

High praise from The North Queensland Titans.

Bitch I gasped lol

For those worried about Staggs contract value, can I just point out that a certain poster who has proven to be correct the vast majority of times has like my post. (see below)

I swear the original reporting of this extension had it basically on par with his current contract... it was just unsure whether it was 3 or 4yrs... and even the 4yrs seemed more like an upgrade of his current deal + a 3yr extension.

So the $2.4m seemed like a total package deal if you include some form of upgrade on this current deal + 3yr.

It seems like the media has kept the $2.4m but decided to land on 3 yrs.

I feel like he's more likely to be closer to $600k than $800k... the same thing happened with Flegler way back in the day when $600k was being called, but they had averaged a previously reported total salary out over a reduced contract length... and he was actually closer to $400k

They take the highest value too, Piakura is a good example; they kept saying the third-year value, but it went up every year to that point. His pay in 2021 was not what it was in 2024 when he was in the last year of the deal.

Congratulations to the Brisbane Roosters on all their signings. Good wishes and best of luck for the future.

Where has this come from?

We re-signed a promising young hooker who has barely played half a season in the NRL in total games, Kotoni Staggs at 800k (that’s not a pie and a coke) and an aging Reynolds on a 1 year deal.
