Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

He's played more games as a backrower and lock than a front rower.
79 backrow
52 lock
36 front row

Used to kick a couple goals to from memory
Yeah the prop rotation has started recently, but I feel like that has started happening as the six again era has been evolving ... where smaller (Barney isn't that small) mobile middles are popping up and becoming more prevalent.

It used to be all about size with your props, but that seems to be shifting... in 2020 Seibs went for big forwards to roll through the middle... then NRL flipped the script, we won a spoon and those big guys were out the door in 2021.

The warriors unfortunately for them aren’t really in a position to demand to much in return. You aren’t ever going to get another Aussie player to sign for you again if you dig your heels in on letting your skipper go back home for his sick kid and an improved support network until you get a fair player swap.

This makes me significantly less optimistic about a

Don’t see the appeal behind a 34yo in 2027 coming off an ACL. If he’s super cheap sure, but he won’t be given the numerous Sydney clubs who desperately need a prop. If people were justifying losing Payne as not that big of a loss because he might fall off at 27 then Barnett is borderline geriatric. He hasn't strung together 20 game seasons in 7 years. Think it pays to be patient here, we have tons of cap space and the best young spine in the comp

he's only 31

+ he'll be a full season past his ACL injury

Mitch Barnett is a classic profile of a forward who has excelled with the speed of the game in the 6-again era.

I feel 2025 was his break-out year in terms of public perception as he elevated himself into a top 10 prop in the game. His SOO performance in game 1 was immense and was cruelly stopped short by the ACL a few weeks later.

He feels like a Madge player in terms of culture, work rate and leadership. We should be looking for this just as much as other on-field attributes

This will really test our newly rediscovered pulling power. Barnett currently on a reported 750-800k. At his age, the ACL is tough injury to overcome and we won't likely see him reach the same peak.
No doubt a struggling club could offer 850-900. Would he be willing to take less to be part of a title winning juggernaut?
Honestly a 2 year deal of combined 1.3-1.4M feels right to me.
Anything more I'd pass. Could be very easy for player managers to overshoot the mark and dig their heels in knowing we have "Haas funds".

Its probably an exaggeration but a struggling club paying 800k, we could get for far less on the cap + TPA's.

So he wouldn't be that far off what they hypothetically offered and at a club with a coach he knows from Origin and hopefully still in a window.

I agree with an earlier post on this being more about filling a gap with the best available (and still a rep prop) until the ones you really want are available. (In 2028)

I can't see Warriors wanting one of our young halves or a winger.

They will want a forward to replace Barnett.

I’ve a soft spot towards Warriors and want to keep it that way. I do not know the facts about Barnett‘s kids situation, I feel sorry for the situation and wish him all the best. That’s it. Respect to Warriors & to Barnett.

I just want us to be not involved in these distractions at all. It’s the agent doing his agent things to attract more $’s by mentioning us. I’m positive DD & co are smart enough to stay away from this shenanigans.

We don’t want anyone this season and our focus should be getting a grip on our on field performances. We have whole year to plan things after Haas. Who knows someone from within might emerge in 6-8 months so that we don’t have go scouting. We’re in total control and don’t need any distractions. Period.

Arthars is the one that makes most sense if we are into Barnett and he’s into us. It would be a good get for the Warriors and there is history there obviously.

I wonder if it might even come toward if both parties were happy. We could throw into Tawha if they want a first 16 player as Barnett would likely be taking his spot anyway.

They could just sign Jesse for 2027 as is anyways, right? I thought his last contracted year was this year.

Barnett has a contract for 2027, so that swap wouldn't make sense unless you sign Arthars to an extension just to be able to swap him..

Yep you are right but basically, they have given him a release, whatever they get will symbolic and this is way it could look good for them.

Honestly though, it’s more than money that’s involved in a Barnet’s signing. It’s a different baggage that comes with it. Psychologically & emotionally the issues he’s going through will rub on others at the club at different stages. The emotional side of stuff is too much to deal with especially with a kid.
We need to focus on important things. That 800k will go a long way for our squad for next year and beyond.

All the best to Barnett and his kid. Hope everything resolves smoothly.
