Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

Apparently 15 nz rugby players signed but doesn't make news here. Down side of winning a comp is haas and walsh may feel like they have done their duty to the club and now want a pay day
Walsh is Apparently their number 1 target.
According to ragebait media.

Id assume their actual number 1 target would be some gun NZ, Eng or SA union player that their audience would actually know who they are... I dont actually know union players to know who is actually the biggest star.

Reece would have to be very careful though, because unlike Haas he's contracted to like 2029, so him signing with R360 is breaking a contract and I think those are the ones that NRL will come down hard on.

Honestly Broncos may release him let him get his pay day then come back
If he can make 10M in 2 years they probably let him go.

Id say they would be wanting a contract in place that he comes back to broncos if they do release him.

Any players who join R360 have been told they can base themselves wherever they like. Its going to be very attractive from that point of view. I cant see how it will work, but thats whats they are saying.

On top of that, money isnt going to be an issue. Being backed by the Saudi public Investment fund means even if it fails contracts will be paid out. I dont think its much of a gamble for any player who signs up with them from a financial point of view, it will be more a gamble from a sporting point of view. The money on offer for certain players is going to be ridiculous. Look at how much the Saudi pro league is paying some very ordinary footballers.
R360 gives me super league vibes. Even if it gets up, i don't think it will last.

And get in early to get that bag and then jump straight back out of it.

Somebody say bags....?

Really seems to be a competition you would want to be young, with no attachments to play in.
I got a feeling that NRL would put permanent bans on any players that leave Nrl to go join another rival league. It seems like probably not proven enough yet for younger players to take the risk just yet, could potentially do your career very short if r360 falls on it's ass and then you can't get a contract back in the Nrl. I think a few more irrelevant/ older players should definitely drink the cool aid tho, would be a good little cash grab if your career is more or less on the decline anyways. Will be interesting to see if it ends up sticking around or not, if it goes for a few years and seems to be gaining traction I think NRL should be very concerned.

That's the thing isn't it. I wouldn't begrudge a player a couple of years away from retirement going and getting a top up but most of them I imagine are quite settled where they are, have kids etc so would be pretty rough. A young player though, no kids and maybe a partner...perfect situation. Like you say though, the risk being it falls on its ass and the NRL refuse to register a contract for you.

I can't see that happening btw. If a Walsh or Cleary type goes to R360 for a season or 2 and wants to come back, the NRL would probably pay for the flights.

NRL can say that, but it's not like they wouldn't let Walsh, Haas, Cleary, etc. back in if it fell over.

They let SBW back in after he caught a redeye to Paris with like 3-4yr left on his contract.

Broncos should just be looking to get something signed that they have first rights to match a salary if/when they return... or just sign a contract that is effective as of July 1 2027 or something.

Especially for Walsh if he's requesting to break his contract to get the big pay day.

I feel like the first year when it starts in October is the one the players would want to target.

Starts after next NRL season, only short and they can return before June 30 in 2027 after getting their coin.

So have something in place that let's them get that coin then they return to us on a contract.

with the kind of dosh they are throwing around they will probably sign 12 players and play 3 teams of 4 against each other or something.
I think someone was saying the other day that the Saudi backed football comp has like 4 teams that are actually backed by the Saudi sports fund and then all the others are left to themselves.

So there's like 4 teams that are picking up the Ronaldos, whilst the rest of them are park league Saudi players.

The games would be like 10-0 and the park league teams playing in front of about 10 people.

But Saudis are happy to burn money for their sportwashing campaign.

R360 doesn't have the Saudis (yet)... they're backed by US investors... no way are they throwing their money into it if it's not going to get a return back... and the contracts to get the US money will be iron clad, so if it's not making money they'll have clauses in there to just pull the money out and the players don't get paid.
