The mole is the one starting the Haas rumours. Both parents are in jail so he is in Newcastle with his brothers spending the holidays with family. He is going nowhere he and the club both know it so why rush it? One brother is on a 3 year deal and the other is about to be as well so they’ll all be at the club.

From my perspective, its dragging out. We hear how he wants to stay here so i dont see what the hold up is. He's had since November 1st last year.

Lots for management to be haggling over. 3 years at $x.x million? 4 years at $x.y million? Same money each year or weighted later after the next RLPA negotiation?

He could be 100% settled on Brisbane and there could still be negotiations next January.

His manager is working on as many 3rd party deals as possible. No need to rush when they have said over and over again he won’t play for another nrl team.
 
Third party deals have gotta be approved by the NRL and they’re in no rush. I’ve seen a deal be held up for a whole season because the NRL were taking their sweet ass time approving third party deals.

I imagine some of the delay will also be until clubs have more clarity around what the next salary cap is going to be.

Its not like they wouldnt have been talking before November 1st though. Reports are that we were keen to keep him from the open market so we would have been talking.

depends how complicated the deal is. especially when it comes to third party deals.

I remember once when there was concerns that Darren Lockyer's new deal wouldn't be sorted in time for round one (and he didn't have a year remaining on his contracts)

While fast is what fans want, getting them right is more important ... and the whole R360 mess likely threw a spanner in the works and delayed things. not to mention that him taking a break from footy and going on holidays would hinder the whole process.
