Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

I wouldn't mind getting Humphries... I think he was originally lined up to play lock for bunnies, but the pommie halfback failed and Humphries went well at 7 in the trials.

Not sure how long he's signed to bunnies, but we need more ball playing middles to allow us to take Patty off the field.

Not sure I'd go as far as Humphries starting, but having him around the squad as the Smoothy replacement would be my thinking.

Also I really don't want to see Patty at prop in the near future... too much wear and tear on someone that we will need to lead the forward pack well into the future.
Watching the trial against the magpies, i noticed francis was doing a lot more ball play, and seemed to be attempting to mirror carrigans game.

I think the best option would be injecting Smoothy with a case of homesickness and getting him back.
Watching the GF theatre Smoothy is held in high praise within the group.

Does anyone remember the trial game he played for Roosters years ago and he looked like an absolute killer? I wouldn't mind it if Broncos signed him for depth.

Mitch Barnett has been released by the Warriors to return to Australia for personal reasons.

He's getting on a bit, but if I was the club I would be making serious enquiries. He'd be a great Payne replacement.

Perfect timing too as his release will be at the end of the 2026 season

The thing about Barnett being released is it might shake a player or 2 loose in Sydney to head North. Obviously I'd be happy to have Barnett at our club but given his situation you'd expect he is going back to Sydney to be with family.

Not sure why everyone keeps saying that Barnett will be going back to Sydney. He has never played for a Sydney club. He was at the knights for the majority of his career. There is every chance he will be at Brisbane from 2027.

He's been released for family reasons... he'll be signing somewhere in Sydney
From the Courier Mail...

On the surface, Barnett’s former club the Knights, as well the Titans and possibly the Broncos would be crazy not to entertain claiming Barnett’s services in 2027.

“Predominantly the family we’re trying to get close to is in Taree,’’ Barnett said.

“I think, you know, any of those sort of teams around NSW or Queensland, where it will be easily accessible for family narrows it down, but there’s been no discussion.

“One they’ve got to be interested in me. And two, I just haven’t thought of that. “The decision concerns only my child and that's what we’ve been dealing with at the Warriors.

Fair enough... radio was only talking about him being from Newcastle.

Taree is still a long ass way away from SEQ... Newcastle and Sydney still closer.

3hr from Sydney or 6hr from Brisbane

Justin Horo and Willie Mason mentioned last year that the Wahs let him speak to a few clubs and we were one of them. I'd almost gamble my new house of him being in Brisbane next year.

I'll try and find the timestamp tonight.
Steady mate. You almost had to give up your left testicle for that pad, don't go throwing it around in wild bets.

It would be good to have him that's for sure but as mentioned, Brissy is a long way from Taree. The Knights will surely go hammer and tong for him, they need him probably more than anyone and it is as close to Taree as any NRL club can get.

I still think we will probably either look internal or bring Flegs home if he comes back well.

Depending on the medical needs for his child, unknown what they are but Royal Brisbane might be the best option for that.
