They didn't mention what compensation we would offer the Warriors though. just touched on what the Warriors were seeking.
This is what Gavin Orr, Barnett's manager has said:
“Mitch has got a good relationship with ‘Madge’ (Maguire),”
“I would say the Broncos are one of the favourites too because of Mitch’s regard for Madge and their time together in State of Origin with the Blues.
“Mitch has finished meeting a handful of clubs and we’ll now wait and see what offers come through before he makes a final decision.
“Hopefully we’ll know by the end of this week or next week where Mitch is at.”
Barnett is currently on $800,000 at the Warriors and is said to be seeking a two or three-year deal, with Orr confident Barnett can soldier on until the age of 34. Orr said:
“Mitch is super fit, he’s been training really well,” Orr said. “He’s on track with his injury, so he’s got no problems with his knee which is good.
“Mitch is confident he can play another two or three years, so he’s happy to listen to clubs and see what they put on the table.”
Payne Haas said:
“He would be a great signing if they could get him,”
“He’s a great leader.
“He does all the hard-nosed stuff, and he’s something you need in your club.
“He’s a strong voice and he’s a strong character.
“If Brisbane can get him, it would do them the world of good.”

I'll be surprised if there's actually a player swap... if a team can get a player swap where all 4 parties can agree then they'll get first preference on Barnett.
But teams meeting with Barnett are probably making their pitch to find out what he wants and what they can offer... and then throwing in the "we can't offer a player swap, but if wahs drop that requirement then come and talk to us then"

And do wahs even want Lomax given he's an R360 flight risk... and what if Lomax is saying he'll go but only if wahs give him $700k for 3yrs.
Just saw that Lomax was seen leaving Rugby Australia HQ this morning... so he might be moving on from NRL in the near future anyway... he's no longer contracted to parra he just can't play NRL unless parra say yes

He'll get far more in the NRL than he will in Rugby.
Just because he was leaving Rugby Australia HQ. doesn't mean that they've changed their minds and decided to give him a big top up to a Super Rugby contract

Not sure Shiba is worth the big contract he will be chasing given his defensive lapses. Very happy to keep him for a $450-$500k price. He's a very big lad who could play in the back row too.

Is $500k all that much anymore?
The salary cap is over $12m next year and then the next CBA comes in for 2028.
$500k is 4% of a $12M cap... that's probably slightly above average across the squad and he's a guaranteed starter.

I agree though, the amounts being tossed around by the knobs in the media and podcasts are way overs. After how many attempts at other clubs, he got convinced by Patty to come give it one last shot with us. To his credit he's grabbed it with both hands and had a stellar year, but I'd need him to show consistency if he wants us throwing big money at him.
Happy for him to go get his money elsewhere but I think he does better staying with us for that $500k figure tbh. The reality is you get noticed more at a club like ours. If he's at another club in 2025, showing that same form, does he get the call up for Origin? Can't see it.

Lomax also basically told Rugby Aus no, tried to go to the Storm, and was prepped to go to court over it all rather than go to Rugby AUS. Now he is back on their door with nowhere else to go in the short term.
Its not a great look for them if they throw big money at him now.
