you posting a player signing suggestion from the QLD cup is hardly a "random thought"

It's a random thought I had.. then I came here to post it. He was at Raiders then signed with storm on a train and trial but never got a chance.

Josh Billing with a Hat Trick in QCup vs Wynuum yesterday. He’s having a very good season

He's played 13 Cup games in two years because of injury and has scored some tries over the last month.

I know he got three last night but look at them, one chasing a kick, one backing up the middle and one diving over.

I think he's got some way to go before he's NRL.

Worth considering for a train and trial deal next year. I'm just assuming he's a good character with a good work ethic. Think he started off in the outside backs so he could have some decent utility value also.

Gem is reportedly seeking 600k a year with his new contract, Broncos are only offering 300k.

I don't blame him for seeking that money. He doesn't have as long in the game to earn, he's got a family to look after.

I think the 300k is a bit low. He's going through a bit of rough patch at the moment but 300k for a premiership and Origin centre is a tad low.

Good luck to him ... But he isn't worth 600k.

I'd offer 400k max.

My concern with him is that last year was an anomaly that took absolutely everything he had in the tank to achieve and I'm not sure he can replicate it again.

I think 300k is fair at the Broncos, I think the club offered Cobbo 300k who had more potential upside than Gem.
We've got players to fill his void eventually like Mariner, Verhoeven, Coates.
He does have every right to ask for 600k but he won't be getting that here.

If we do lose him we should look to pick up another budget depth option for the outside backs.

Controversial take but I think I would of preferred to Keep Grant Anderson over Shibasaki and even Verhoeven and Coates. The last two have amazing potential but Grant Anderson is super dependable, has speed, skills and vision and looks a legit NRL player. I think he will be a bad loss and was the wrong guy to let go. He isn't guaranteed any game time where he is going either! Surely we could of found the budget for him to stay at the Broncos? He would be better utilized here.

Don't think it's too controversial tbh. Anderson looked really solid for us when he played, and was safe under a high ball which we especially can never take for granted. Was also good cover in a few backline positions. Really disappointing he will have only been here for 1 injury disrupted season.

No way would we pay overs for him. He’s not worth it, he’s had 1 good career year and been rubbish this year. We have Mariner ready for a Centre spot next season.

Nah stick to the 300k. We don't really need him (assuming Mariner comes back fine).
Yes, we got to be ruthless. After all, that’s what the “great clubs” do to maintain a healthy cap. If not for injuries to Anderson & Mariner, I do not find a place for Shiba in our extended bench. The leakage of points in our left edge is mostly due to him & Ezra’s terrible reads. I highly doubt if he would ever reach his peaks of last year. In saying that though, I do want him to get bigger contract BUT not with us.

Preston Riki is an interesting signing. Was a Warriors product who they allowed to walk to the Panthers. Panthers love a Warriors player and Warriors have no shortage of young guns so it doesn't mean the kid can't play but he never quite kicked on at either side. So we know he has come from two good football programs but has not been fantastic.

Do we think he can go up another gear at the Broncs or is he simply roster filler?

First of all, MRGoTo has added a awful lot to the chat, and I'm delighted he is on here engaging and offering us takes about guys I frankly have never seen nor heard about!

Glad that P Riki got his money, was seriously concerned he couldnt eat given the amount of fines he gets each week.

Should be easier to pay them now!

I think he does have a future here. Got a bit of Tunza about him which I like.

As for Grant Anderson, well his transfer was arranged whilst the club believed that Haas would extend with us. Obviously we all know how that turned out.

I regard him as a unfortunte casualty from the fall out of Haas's decision. Given (though you wouldnt know it currently) we are in a premiership window, bringing in Barnett is the correct choice to make.

Thank you! Barnett is a great signing. Sure he is no Payne Haas but he is an absolute out and out leader and he will set the tone at the club. He is aggressive and takes no BS what so ever.

If the boys don't fall into line Barnett is almost a stand over guy within the squad. He helped establish the new culture at the Warriors they are flourishing in and I believe he will do the same here at the Broncos. We will just need to support him with meter eaters and let him bring the aggressive edge.
